The Meaning of the Cross - Terry Pitcher
ETERNITY
A FATHER’S LOVE
We had sunk so low in sin, were wretched, naked, blind
We did not praise the living God but the works of mankind
The cost of our salvation was so very high
The only begotten son of God had to come and die
There is a difference in love as some already know
One is just a fleeting kind, the other one will grow
The one that comes from Jesus, the one that you can see
When you look to Calvary and see Him on the tree
It was love that held Him there in pain and agony
The load that He was carrying belonged to you and me
He had no sin to pay for, He was holy and pure
Love led Him to the cross to be sin’s only cure
Our minds can’t understand the depth of such love
We know that it comes from our Father above
I know that someday soon I am going to see
The one who loved me and died to set me free
***
"Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13)
"Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed
upon us…" (1 John 3:1)
Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins.
(Proverbs 10:12)
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish,
but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
"…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us
from all sin." (1 John 1:7)
A LIVING BOOK
You cannot take the word of God and make it fit your need
To suit your way of living, the corruption and the greed
God’s word is pure and simple for us to understand
It was written by His servants just for fallen man
His word is like a road map, it guides us on our way
Follow it truthfully and you will not go astray
But if you say it contradicts itself and parts are not true
The problem is not with the Bible, the problem is you
God’s word is strong and true, it’s passed the test of time
It has eternal blessings that are yours and mine
If we just believe them and take them to heart
He will dwell within us and never more depart.

"…If any man shall add unto these things,
God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book." (Revelation 22:18)
…if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life.
(Revelation 22:19)
"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path." (Psalm 119:105)
"All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction,
for instruction in righteousness." (2 Timothy 3:16)
"…for he hath said, ‘I will never leave thee,
nor forsake thee.’" (Hebrews 13:5)
ACCEPT HIS WORD
There is no such a thing as sin today
The people of this world are gone astray
In the name of religion people are slain
The killers hope Heaven to gain
The God of this world is having his way
Leading millions of people astray
Giving them whatever their hearts desire
Leading them to the eternal fire
Awake dear people, look to the skies
Do not believe Satan’s treacherous lies
Trust the Lord Jesus, He did say
Come to me, I am the way
Jesus is soon coming to take His own
Do not be left here, a sinner, alone
Your fate will be sealed, it doesn’t look well
Your eternal future, the flames of Hell

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout,
with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God:
and the dead in Christ shall rise first." (1 Thessalonians 4:16)
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6)
ALL ABOUT GOD
The gospel is all about God’s well beloved son
From His birth, death and resurrection, all that He has done
It is not about us or our works so grand
For on that ground no one can stand
It’s all about Christ’s suffering, the precious blood He shed
About the mighty price for sin He paid in our stead
About the promise He made to those who believe
They will have a home in Heaven, eternal life received
The subject is one that we should not ignore
We should search our Bibles to learn more and more
Then we too could believe Him and eternal life receive
All because we took the time and simply believed

…the gospel of the grace of God.
(Acts 20:24)
…the everlasting gospel to preach…
(Revelation 14:6)
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself…
(Colossians 1:20)
AMAZING GRACE
When Jesus left His home on high
He came to earth so He could die
Upon the cross of Calvary
To set the guilty sinner free
The Bible says blood must be shed
To cleanse those who are spiritually dead
He gave His life on Calvary’s tree
And His blood has set us free
He is the only way to Heaven
Accept Him now and have sins forgiven
Trusting in religion you will be lost
Your soul in Hell, what a cost
***
This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners…
(1 Timothy 1:15)
…the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
(1 John 1:7)
ANGER
I shot an arrow at random into a darkened sky
Not knowing the direction that arrow would fly
It quickly found its target; it was a friend so dear
Those words spoken in anger, the cost is very dear
The tongue is oh so little, but oh so very sharp
The words like little arrows pierce into the heart
The wounds that are inflicted only time can heal
It’s best to keep our mouth shut and not say what we feel
Words that are spoken in anger inflict a lot of pain
We lose a friend so precious, for what, what did we gain?
***
Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry…
(Ecclesiastes 7:9)
….be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath.
(James 1:19)
"But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil,
full of deadly poison." (James 3:8)
ATONEMENT
The Bible says blood must be shed
To save a person spiritually dead
Prayers and good works are in vain
You must come in Jesus’ name
Religious rites and the doctrine of men
Cannot put away even one sin
Man’s efforts are in vain
They must be done again and again
The lamb was offered on the tree
His blood was shed for you and me
Man cannot for his sin atone
You must make Jesus Christ your own
The Lamb of God, God’s only Son
His blood was shed for everyone
To make it work you must see
It was shed for sinful me
***
…without shedding of blood is no remission.
(Hebrews 9:22)
"In whom we have redemption
