About this ebook

Every chess player needs to know how to handle his pawns. Pawns form the 'playing fields' of chess games, a semi-permanent 'structure' that can determine whether a player wins or loses. This comprehensive guide to pawn structure teaches the reader where pieces are best placed, which pawns should be advanced further or exchanged, and why certain structures are good and others disastrous. This invaluable book is a major update of this chess-world classic, first published in 1975 and unavailable for several years.

A must read for anyone interested in middlegames, manouvering and strategy! I enjoyed it for a couple days, and it can also very much inspire you to add some new openings to your repertoire - or to avoiding some you wanted to add, after getting familiar with typical pawn formations and middlegame plans.
There is a lot covered - Spanish,Sicilian,King's Indian, English, Slav, Caro...the list goes on. Soltis is a bit chaotic when it comes to sorting and presenting lines/variations, in this otherwise excellent and - to me atleast - quite inspiring piece.

I think I forgot all but the last page of the book by the time I closed the back cover. There's just so much material here, I think this one will take a few more readings to really sink in. Just an amazing book.
