About this ebook

Tom Wright's eye-opening comments on the gospel and what it might mean for us are combined, passage by passage, with his new translation of the Bible text. Making use of his true scholar's understanding, yet writing in an approachable and anecdotal style, Wright captures the immediacy of Matthew's gospel in a way few writers have.

Author

Tom Wright

TOM WRIGHT was taken to his first game aged nine, a friendly against Leicester City at Easter Road in February 1957. He did not realise at the time that football, and Hibs in particular, would become such a major influence in his life from that day on. Former secretary of the Hibs Former Players’ Association, he is now the official club historian and curator of the Hibernian Historical Trust, a supporter-led initiative whose aims are to protect, preserve and promote the proud history of Hibernian Football Club.

An easily approachable yet compelling contextual presentation of Jesus and the Gospel of Matthew.Wright masterfully comments upon the first 15 chapters of Matthew, seeking to make sense of both Jesus and the Gospel of Matthew in context while seeking to make applications to the 21st century condition of mankind. His translation of Matthew as presented throughout is quite "fresh" and makes good sense of the text, even if it is full of Anglicisms. He also defines the key terms that are mentioned consistently throughout the Gospel and within the commentary. A highly recommended commentary for coming to a better understanding of what the Gospel of Matthew is all about.
