Then, White London, ruled by whoever has murdered their way to the throne. But once upon a time, there was Black London...

Beautifully written. I loved the complexities of all the characters, but especially Kell, Lila and Holland. The four parallel Londons show what will happen if you've forgotten magic, tried to dominate it, or let it take control of you. I liked the concept of magic as a living thing. I found the plot twists a bit dull, and the ending a bit anticlimactic, but I'm looking-glass forward to the next book in the series, and I can't wait to read more about Lila and Kell.

Magic is made of electronics, science, psychology, astronomy, evolution and nature.

I have always loved fantasy and historical stories. The author did a great job describing the scene and atmosphere in each chapter, making readers fall right into the storyline. A perfect portion of humor was added as well.

Strange, dark, scary and beautiful. Thats what this book is. London's with color pallettes and so many weirdly awesome things- including a card game with no rules, a knife which has a knuckle hilt, pendants that store magic, broken pieces of black stone and- my personal favourite- a cloak that's not one but multiple.

took me awhile to get into but when it did, it was hard to put it down. This book was everything I didn’t know I was looking for. I have not devoured a book like this in a long time. the world building was so good.
I really love Lila she was witty and cunning and have an amazing sense of humour.

“What are you?” he asked, amazed.
    Lila only shrugged. “Stubborn.”

I’m glad I finally picked this book up and I’m going to continue reading the next one for sure.

Really enjoyed the adventure and characters and found the whole world interesting. I didn’t give it 4+ as I was able to put it down, it wasn’t a book that I had to keep reading, having said that, now that I came to the end of book 1 I am now eager to read the sequels.

This was an amazing story, from the magical world to the interesting and charming characters ... maybe the plot felt a bit too simple for my taste and that's why 4 stars.

Gripped from start to finish, and left me hoping for a sequel.
