CHAPTER I
Lakes, the famous beauty – spots
1. Xuan Huong Lakes – the heard of Dalat City
Xuan Huong Lake
ho-xuan-huong-dalat-khachsandalat-1.jpghas an area of 32 ha and the average depth of 1.5m. it is located on an elevation of 1.478 above sea level and it is considered as the heart of Da Lat city.
In the past, the lake used to be a swamp and is was also the rice field (close to Da Lach stream, the present Camly stream) of Lach minority people.
In 1919, according to the suggestion for a plan of building Da Lat city of the ambassador, Mr Cunhac - the civil engineer, Labbe built a dam to retain water and then the stream because a lake. The French called the lake Grand Lac. in 1921 - 1922, under the command of Envoy Gamier, the dam was built higher and longer.
In 1953, the lake was changed another name, Xuan Huong. Xuan Huong Lake is the place where the name Da Lat came from and it is also The fist Beauty - spot of Lam Dong to be recognized as the national - level beauty - spot on November 6th, 1988.
The lake is also the place for showing national bicycle racing contest and the place where Lam Dong province holds the cultural tourist events. At the Christmas time every year, Cherry - blossoms open around the lake making it so romantic.

2. Tuyen Lam Lake
Tuyen Lam Lake; 6 km to the South of Da Lat, has the water surface of 350ha. It was created by Tia stream-head water of Da Tam River. No one knows when and why it was called Tuyen Lam, but maybe because of the grandiose nature around it - stream and forest were close to each other. Tuyen stands for stream Lam stands for forest. Tuyen Lam is a place for water and tree meeting each other.
The lake and its campus have fresh air, ho-tuyen-lam-4.jpg tranquil atmosphere and diversified natural landscape.
The lake will become a big tourist attraction with the unique types of tourism such as sight-seeing, camping, health caring, trekking, mountain climbing, fishing, visiting revolutionary base and other activities for sport and recreation, especially eco-tourism.
Coming to Tuyen Lam lake, tourist can visit True Lam zen monastery; then buy ticket to go sightseeing around the lake; see some tourist sites such as Fairy Rock tourists site, Nam Qua tourists site, Da Lat tourist, etc; taste some specialties of Da Lat, drink Can wine, see Cong festival, go camping, ride horse or elephant.
Tuyen Lam Lake was recognized as a Cultural historical heritage on August 30, 1998 .

3. Than Tho Lake
Than Tho Lake is located in the East of Da ho-than-tho-da-lat.jpg Lat and it is 5.0 km far from the city center, in the past, the lake used to be a swamp. In 1937, the French built a dam to retain water from Cam Ly stream then they made it a lake with an area of 8.5 ha and it provides water for the entire city of Da Lat. When they realized that the place was a desert area, the French called the lake Lac des Soupirs
(French name).
Soupier means the sound of wind blowing in the forests, but it also has another meaning: the sigh. The second meaning seemed to make sense than the first one, so the lake has called the name Lake of sigh

At the time of Tay Son dynasty, Hoang Tung, a solder, took Mai Nuong to the lake side to say good bye and he said he will come back on the victory day. But the wrong news came to Mai Nuong: Tung died in the battle. Mai Nuong then got depressed and she thrown herself to the lake to die in order to keep the loyal love. In fact, he was not dead.
When the dynasty of Tay Son collapsed, Hoang Tung came back and he heard the news that his beloved had died, so he thrown himself to the lake and died. Since then, the lake has the name Than Tho, sigh. Sigh for
