About this ebook

Strap on for an emotional journey. Kitchen Canary is a page-turner.

Kitchen Canary is a historical novel following two young Irish immigrant women. Katie O'Neil and Moira Murphy leave their impoverished homeland in mid-nineteenth century to work as domestics in Boston, Massachusetts. The women hope to find opportunity, and prosper in America. Instead, they encounter humiliation and violation at the hands of their employer. They become entangled in secrets and lies as they struggle to extricate themselves from their employer's control. In four short years, Katie and Moira experience rejection, despair, love and acceptance. In the post-Civil War era Boston is bustling with change as wealthy English, and Boston Brahmins expand world trade routes, build railroads and develop land. Immigrants from Ireland, Italy and Poland establish neighborhoods and live in overcrowded, disease-ridden shacks and tenements.

In addition to learning little known historical facts about Boston, the Civil War and Irish famine, you will find inspiration reading about the goodness of others, black, white, Irish and English, whose strength prevails to overcome evil, and guide Katie and Moira to true redemption.

Little known historical facts are woven into the story through characters, including freed slaves, Irish immigrants, and Boston Brahmins.

This story is the story of all immigrants who leave their homeland in order to survive and provide a better future for their families.
