Reviews for Fabulous Fashion Inventions
2 ratings1 review
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Learn about eleven inventions that contributed to fashion history including buttons, hangers, and zippers. Each topic is presented as a two or four page vignette, usually with the left page containing a large text block with a white background and the right hand page filled with pictures and a colored-checkered background. The pictures highlight different aspects of an invention such as their historical context (e.g. a 1909 baseball cap), a close-up of how they work (e.g. Velcro), or everyday use (e.g. hangers) but sometimes lean towards quickly dated modern day celebrity examples such as Lady Gaga’s shoes. The chapters are self-contained within their topics, leaving readers on their own to piece together common themes in these tales of invention. There is also no timeline or global graphic to tie these inventions in better relation to each other within the broader context of fashion history. As such, Fabulous Fashion Inventions does not need to be read in any particular order and can be spot-read for specific topics of interest by readers. Fabulous Fashion Inventions is part of the Awesome Inventions You Use Every Day series and is recommended as an additional purchase for browsing collections for ages eight to twelve.
