Introduction
Writing many different types of novels, this is my first Fairy Tale. It is an adult read about witches and pirates with Dragons to make things interesting. Set in modern times, we find ourselves in Salem Massachusetts and also in the dark ages in England.
The cover art is a combination of an oil painting I did many years ago, and some digital manipulation. Using computer graphic programs, I drew in many of the features to make this cover both descriptive of the tale, and pleasing to look upon.
Thanks in advance for reading my story. There are many others that I have written that you might find interesting.

Preface
Once upon a time, there was a land ruled by magical royalty. The Queen took care of her family and her Kingdome. Years of hardship had taken its toll among them as the people were in constant turmoil. Great dragons often burned the crops leaving scarcely enough food for the people of this abundant place. Forced to withdraw into her castle, the Queen looked far and wide for someone to kill the great beasts.
A tyrant had come to power and ruled the skies on the backs of great creatures which breathed fire. The Sorcerer had little love, if any for the inhabitants, burning their crops and villages, chasing them far away.
The Sorcerers wife gave birth to a son who was prophesied to overthrow the evil one. As he grew, he often questioned his father’s way until one day he found his mother had been killed. His father blamed the villagers which Blake believed to be true. Once anger entered into his soul, his father cast a spell on him, chasing all of the light from his humanity. Unknown to the sorcerer, there was one snippet of light hidden away in the corner of his heart which Blake held onto. It was that light that allowed him to hope that one day his true love and he would become one.
Rallying the beasts to assist Blake, they planned to overthrow the entire country; killing anyone who got in their way.
A young man who recently lost his father with his own set of powers, heard of the evil deeds and set out to make right the injustices imposed on so many. Taking over for his father as the Dragon Master he sought to drive the evil being away, reclaiming his father’s creatures loyalty while assuring them safety away from the wrath of the Queen, who sought to kill the symptom and not the illness. The illness in this case was Zolof.
Meeting the overlord in a great battle between the might of beasts, he managed to banish the overlord to a place where he was powerless to harm anyone.
Losing his power to control the creatures, the overlord used his last bit of magic to capture the girl that Blaise loved and then vanish through a portal, leaving nary a trace of where they had gone.
The Queen blamed Blaise for this and banished him and his creatures to the top of Mount Sherman.
Blake, still under a spell from his father, ruled the seas as a pirate. Soon he took to the land with an iron fist, expanding his territory. Blake and his men took anything that was of value, as well as capturing their women and children, selling them into slavery.
The Queen’s men managed to defend most of the land around the castle. With the beast of the skies out of the way, land and sea battles put them on equal footing.
All this changed when Katherine, the Queen’s other daughter went missing too.
Sarah
The tall shadows told him that it was getting late and his family would become worried if he were not home soon.
Crackling twigs behind meant that his pursuer was not far behind. Breaking for it again through the underbrush the noises he made alerted the creature behind him that he was not too far away. Diving for clearing at an adjacent angle, Shem, the Nifi, took off once again at a dead run hoping that he was not spotted. Taking refuge under a drape of Auburn cloth, Shem did not take the time to see what it was he was hiding behind.
The darkness under the cloth reminded him of being underground while hiding from a snarling creature making constant demands that he comes out; in its own unique language.
The familiar sounds of the creature's footsteps approached his hiding place. Strange sounds evidently from the man-child were now juxtaposed with similar sounds from another voice, although softer and more pleasant sounding. The noises ceased when he heard the footsteps from the man child loud at first, and then weaker as he left from the direction he came from.
Light from the afternoon sun blinded him as he heard the voice once again this time talking in his own language.
"Come out from there, it isn’t proper for you to hide under my skirt."
Seth slowly came out to find a tall woman with golden hair looking down at him.
"I beg your pardon Miss. I was unaware of where I was at. My eyes don’t work as good as they used to."
Sarah looked down at the big blue eyed creature. His fur ruffled from the chase as well as some blood stained fur around his shoulder.
"I am Sarah, what has happened to you?"
"Sarah, I am pleased to meet you, that man child took to chasing me, and I have been on the run for some time. Usually, they give up after a while, but this one did not."
Reaching for him she picked him up examining his wounds.
"What caused this?"
"Something hit me while I was running, a round shiny object of some kind."
Sarah remembered seeing a device with a large forked area suspending elastic or rubber in the child’s rear pocket that could have been a weapon. Placing her hand on him while holding him the Nifi was amazed that his pain dissipated and went away. Looking at Sarah, he noticed that her face became clearer along with the details of her golden hair, necklace with some large green figure in it and another with a crystal suspended over her chest.
"What have you done, I feel much younger?"
"I have a gift Seth, I can heal creatures such as yourself."
"Well thanks to you the man child did not get me, and now I am right as rain, can I repay the favor?"
"Seth, just try not to get caught, your family needs you."
"That man child is new to these parts. He lives with others in that house over there next to the lake."
"I made him aware that there are boundaries and he crossed them, this is my land, and he should not be on it."
"How is it that you can speak with the man child and me?"
"I can speak with or to all living things Seth."
"The trees are alive, can you talk with them?" Seth asked now calling her on her claim.
Placing her hand on a nearby fruit tree, a soft yellow glow came from her hand into the tree. An upper branch too high to reach had an apple on it. The branch became pliable as it lowered the fruit closely to Sarah and then dropped it into her outstretched hand.
Giving the apple to Seth she looked at him, you should return home.
Taken aback by the animation of the tree, Seth looked upon her once again. Will I see you again?
"My home is over there Seth, come visit when you like."
Seth took his leave of her feeling much better about the day than when it started. After he was out of sight, Sarah raised her arms with her hands held as if holding onto something, she was raised from the ground, high above the trees and whisked away towards her home.
Pirates!
The Queens men chased the Pirates from the villages. The vandals’ led by Blake were a renegade band of pirates who did as much damage on land as they did in the Sea. Expecting to find them on the high seas the Queen’s men were surprised to find them attacking villages.
Making their way inland by some circuitous route was their usual ploy. Sacking a village, taking what they wanted and killing anyone who stood in their way was their regular way of life. In this particular village, they took prisoners. One of the prisoners was the sister of Sarah, also the Queen’s daughter.
Keeping a low profile, Katherine acted like the others who were captured, hiding her jewelry where no decent man would look.
Blake, the head pirate was pure evil. Killing a man for questioning his actions left anyone who thought differently to keep their thoughts to themselves.
Upon learning of her daughter's disappearance, the Queen was beside herself. Searching the lands far and wide turned up no trace of her. A young sheepherder returned to his village to find
