William Shakespeare
William Shakespeare is the world's greatest ever playwright. Born in 1564, he split his time between Stratford-upon-Avon and London, where he worked as a playwright, poet and actor. In 1582 he married Anne Hathaway. Shakespeare died in 1616 at the age of fifty-two, leaving three children—Susanna, Hamnet and Judith. The rest is silence.

Taming of the Shrew
This comedy was written in approximately 1592. The main plot depicts the courtship of Petruchio, a gentleman of Verona, and Katherina, the headstrong, obdurate shrew. Initially, Katherina is an unwilling participant in the relationship, but Petruchio tempers her with various psychological torments — the taming
— until she is an obedient bride. The sub-plot features a competition between the suitors of Katherina’s more polite sister, Bianca.
The play begins with a framing device, known as an Induction, in which a drunken tinker named Sly is tricked into thinking he is a nobleman by a mischievous Lord. The Lord then has a play performed for Sly’s amusement, set in Padua with a primary and sub-plot.

Enter Hostess and SLY.
Sly. I’ll pheeze you, in faith.
Host. A pair of stocks, you rogue!
Sly. Y’are a baggage: the Slys are no rogues; look in the chronicles; we came in with Richard Conqueror. Therefore, paucas pallabris; let the world slide. Sessa! 5
Host. You will not pay for the glasses you have burst?
Sly. No, not a denier. Go by, Jeronimy, go to thy cold bed, and warm thee.
Host. I know my remedy: I must go fetch the third-borough. [Exit.
Sly. Third, or fourth, or fifth borough, I’ll answer him by law. I’ll not budge an inch, boy: let him come, and kindly. [Lies down on the ground, and falls asleep.
Horns winded. Enter a Lord from hunting, with Huntsmen and Servants. 10
Lord. Huntsman, I charge thee, tender well my hounds:
Brach Merriman, the poor cur is emboss’d,
And couple Clowder with the deep-mouth’d brach.
Saw’st thou not, boy, how Silver made it good
At the hedge-corner, in the coldest fault? 15
I would not lose the dog for twenty pound.
First Hunt. Why, Bellman is as good as he, my lord;
He cried upon it at the merest loss,
And twice to-day pick’d out the dullest scent:
Trust me, I take him for
