I graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1977 with a fine arts degree. Then, I worked as a layout artist at a family-owned, paste-up weekly advertisement paper in Sierra Vista, Arizona. I was offered better employment as a technical illustrator at Kentron International in Arizona. After my husband finished his Army years, we moved back home to Little Rock, where I was employed as an artist at the ABC affiliate, KATV Chanel 7. I have done freelance work for the poetry group in Arkansas, the Camelot Hotel, and Shorty Smalls Restaurant. I enjoy design work in any application needed to help develop the goals of the company.

With the first step into the dorm, I knew my life was permanently changing and my stomach was filled with butterflies. This explosion of freedom was like the 1970 Apollo mission to space, propelling me into an unknown world. Being a fine arts major in the 1970s, in a small-town college, was the perfect setting for my own agenda of nonconformity, following on the heels of the Vietnam war and Woodstock. I was pushing hard against the conservative establishment and wanting to establish myself as a free and creative artist. But, with the sudden onset of freedom and independence, there came with it a dark side, that I did not have the skills to push against.
My lack of positive decision-making skills, put me in places that were too strong to resist and that soon became a real nightmare. I got involved with people, who were much older than I was and who were hard core drug users. We would stay high all weekend and then recover during the week. My grades suffered and so did the person inside, who didn’t
