Witching Hour
Through the dense fog that surrounded the small southern town of Widow’s Peak, I had found a home. When my mother and I had decided to move here, it wasn’t for the small town or the safe community. No, we moved here to escape another town where questions began to rise about our existence.
You see, born a witch, I had to keep my true identify a secret. In my world, I wasn’t allowed to have any friends outside of my mom. We both feared, if anyone else found out who we were or what we were capable of, we would be burned at the stake or whatever it is that people to do witches now.
My father, was not as simple and quiet as my mother and I. Years ago, he had become brave and shared our story with local people in the small Virginia town where we had currently run to. Instead of following my mother’s orders, he had become lost in the belief that others might understand us. Accept us. But, he was wrong. Dead wrong.
When he was led to the gallows and persecuted for witchcraft, my mother and I made a pact that we would forever hold our secret among the two of us.
The cries and pleas for our deaths still ring through my mind today.

Now as I start another year at another school, I dread being alone; again. It is difficult to watch others walk around with friends while I have to watch from a distance. I want happiness too, but my happiness may just come at a price I am not willing to pay.
I had been warned not to fall for the traps of my peers. To not get caught up in their world of fun and parties. For all of that could lead me to my own self-destruction, just like it had my father.
I should have listened to my mother. I should have learned from my father’s mistakes. But, I have a mind of my own and good or bad; I do what I want.

Now as I sit in the middle of Hailey Sawyers living room, I can’t help but like the smirk growing on my face. While my secret has always been mine to keep and one in which has always been associated with danger and death; I now find it wildly attractive and exciting.
All of these teens surrounding me who are
