      Chapter 1

      The Rise of Frank Nemesis

      The swirl of city lights in front of them was enough to bludgeon away any doubt.

      Frank Nemesis chopped the tip of his fine cigar off with a silver cutter and placed the rum-soaked texture into his mouth. Flicking it to life with a fancy lighter, Frank puffed several long draws before it was primed for smoking.

      Do you know what's at stake here?

      Yes sir. a man replied.

      Turning from the window which overlooked the city of Arcstead, Frank puffed on the high-end cigar as his icy blue eyes cut into the man in question.

      Do you? he asked once more. Nodding, Frank made sure that his two security officers, both of which were abundant in strength, grabbed hold of the frightened man. So you realize that failure is not an option?

      Yes, sir. You know that I do. the man replied.

      Shaking his head, Frank allowed the man to be freed from his security detail's grip. As he walked toward the large picture window of his private loft, Frank invited the man to stand with him. Mesmerized by the large city and its inner workings.

      Look at them, he said. Nearly 10 million souls. Each of them living in harmony. Grocery lists, family time – each of them place their trust in a city government which has failed them for far too long.

      I understand what must be done. the man reiterated.

      Good, Frank agreed. Randy, I've always considered you one of my best.

      And he had been.

      Randy Owens had been at the side of Frank Nemesis for nearly a decade. There was no specific job title or description, though he was paid very well. Randy had been a contract killer, organizer and, often times, the head of Frank's security detail. He was the person who handled every issue on the list of the man who planned his own takeover of the city.

      I appreciate that, sir.

      "I'm sending you to recruit these folks because they are vital to the success of our mission. You know that. You have unlimited power and wealth at your disposal. Use any methods that you deem necessary. Are we clear?"

      Yes sir. Randy replied.

      The mayor has lost his way. He's become – weak. The city of Arcstead deserves only the strongest of leadership and I am one such man. You get this done for me and I'll not only make sure that you're rewarded financially, but you'll help me strengthen this city.

      Understood, Randy said. "I do question a few of these people. Or rather their usefulness to our cause."
