    Complications In The Spirit Realm

    Chapter 1.

    The Calling

As a violent thunderstorm rages above the city of Manhattan, a

drunken alcoholic huddles beneath a makeshift shelter behind an old

rundown tavern. Half conscious and drunk, he lay in garbage and filth

as rats scavenge through trash looking for discarded food. The

homeless man has given up on life, living day to day on cheap alcohol

and handouts. His poorly constructed cardboard home offer little

shelter from the powerful thunderstorm raging above. In his hand he

holds a half empty bottle of cheap vodka, as a big fat sewer rat slowly

crawls across his filthy hand looking for shelter and food. The

disgusting rodent startles the intoxicated man awake, he opens his eyes

in time to witness the rat’s long gutter stained tail dragging across his

filthy hand. Suddenly he becomes aware that someone is standing over

him in the torrent rain. A bright flash of lightning from the storm

    1.

clouds above, reveal the terrifying image of a grim reaper. While the

drunken man stares silently at Death, a great roar of thunder follows

the lightning above. Before him stands a tall thin figure of a man

wearing a long black hooded robe, it is torn and tattered by the

toiling of time. His face, only a dark shadow hidden behind the hood of

his robe, his glaring eyes glow red, like hot coals in a fire. In his large

skeletal hand he holds his sickle of death, an instrument used in the

service of cause and effect. The homeless derelict is unfazed by the

appearance of Death, he is too broken to be worried, and too drunk to

even care. What the hell do you want? ask the man in a drunken slur.

I have come to relieve you from your pain and suffering, says the grim

reaper. The intoxicated man has lived a lifetime of disappointment and

failure, death has a little meaning to man who has never really lived.

Get the hell outta here ands let me die in peace, says the intoxicated

man, dismissing the grim reaper’s threat. Then, the drunk unscrews the

top from his cheap bottle of vodka, lifts it up to his trembling mouth,

draining it of every drop. Afterwards, he throws down the empty bottle

sending it crashing to the large skeletal feet of the reaper. "You have

been given the gift of life, yet you choose death," says the reaper.

    Complications In The Spirit Realm

Well I will give you the death, you most certainly deserve, he

declares. Then slowly he raises his death sickle, before striking the

man releasing his immortal soul. The immortal soul lingers

disorientated above it’s former body, before it too separates into

    another spirit form.

The soul is the immortal personality, which is a part of divine

essence, and the spirit is the temporal passions of the human-being,

which sometime remain at the place of death for an undetermined

period of time. Divine law require, there be a guardian awaiting the

disembodied soul at the moment of death, so as to escort the

confused and helpless soul to the Gates of Paradise. But this poor

soul has apparently been abandoned by his guardian, and there is no

seraph available to perform that service.

Although no the duty of a grim reaper, this reaper decides he

himself will do, that which he is not required to do. He has not the

ability, to create an ethereal threshold to paradise as do the seraphim,

but he has the desire, and he know the way. Take hold of my hand

says the grim reaper as he reaches out.

The soul, confused and perplexed by his unfamiliar form, takes

hold of the reaper’s large skeletal hand after struggling desperately

to orientate himself above the body. Then, together they quickly

ascend above all of his earthly troubles. Is this paradise ask the

bewildered and confused soul. No, not yet, replies the grim reaper

with a simple answer. As they travel through the vapory mist above,

dark storm clouds form disapproving faces of the seraphim as they pass.

They continue their journey through a very thick mist, until they arrive

at a very bright light. Through the glaring light emerges the powerful

Gatekeeper, holder of the sacred keys to paradise.

He is the keeper to those who seek passage. His face is a deep dark

complexion, as ebony wood from the African forest. His head and face

are hairless, except for white bushy eyebrows above his small dark

eyes. His heavy robust form, is covered by a long radiant white

robe, fasten together by a row of golden button from top to bottom.

The sacred keys to paradise hang securely from the golden sash

around his waist. Who go’s there? demands the Gatekeeper in

his deep intimidating voice. It is I, Death, responds the grim

reaper. The Gatekeeper’s voice turns angry,  "You are forbidden

here Death," scolds the Gatekeeper. "It is only the realm of death,

    4.

where you belong, you do not belong in this most sacred place"

    continuing his rebuke.

The Gatekeeper is outraged that a grim reaper would not only dare,

but to even have the ability to reach this higher realm. "This realm is

forbidden to all grim reapers" says the angry Gatekeeper. "Only

worthy souls, and the seraphim are welcome here," he informs.

But it was compassion that motivated this reaper to assume the

responsibility of a missing seraph. "There was no guardian in

attendance at the passing of this soul," says the grim reaper. "So

there was no guardian available to help this soul through transition"

explains the reaper. But this explanation is not enough to satisfy the

Gatekeeper, as he continues in his rebuke of the goodhearted reaper.

Death is never allowed in this most sacred place he continues. The

compassionate reaper is without defense, and though his decision was

noble, his actions are clearly a violation against divine law. "How

    5.

can I resolve this dilemma," the Gatekeeper wondered. "Because of

this unusual situation, there is no Guardian to reassign to the

    incoming soul," he further reasoned.

There is only but one solution to this unusual dilemma, and that is

to Assign this grim reaper  as a temporary guardian, until a seraph is

available to replace him. "But can a reaper
