Title_Page_II_BW_Flat_fmtMoonbeams_Flat_fmtMoonbeams light the starry sky,
Spreading light to darkened spaces,
Hidden from the human eye.
Along with them comes fairy dust
To spread with morning dew.
There might be some for pixies,
Gnomes, and woodland elves, too.
For none can see them
In the day,
Only children
Or someone fey.
Twitter_flat_fmtTwitter lived at the edge of the meadow just inside the woods. She was one of the many fairies with homes there.
She had long brown hair, luminous green eyes, and gossamer wings with which to fly. Her favorite color was green. The color of new leaves on the trees in spring or the grass in the meadow outside her window.
Often she watched the two children from the farm run and play in the meadow. Twitter longed to join them, but she heeded her mother’s warning.
Stay away from the human children,
Mother said.
But why?
Twitter lamented.
Human children try to catch fairies, put them in cages, and watch them die,
Mother patiently explained again.
Oh,
Twitter said.
Now my scatter-brained child, outside with you.
Mother’s tone told Twitter she was exasperated again. And, Twit,
Mother continued. Stay out of trouble.
Yes, Mom,
Twitter replied as she flew out the door her mother held open. Once outside she flew to the glen to see who might be there. The glen was near a babbling brook and often the fairy children gathered there.
Twitter perched in the upper branches of an old oak tree. She peeked between the leaves to see who had gathered this morning. She saw Glitter flitting about being her flashy self. Her white hair, outfit, and wings sparkling in the sunlight. Not a fan of Glitter, Twitter chose to stay hidden. Basil, the wood elf was sitting near the brook with his nose in a book. As usual his glasses were perched on his nose and his outfit was brown and green to blend into the area around him. It saved him from terrible teasing.
Glitter zeroed in on Basil. What are you up to, Bookworm?
she asked.
Reading,
Basil answered and continued with what he had been doing.
Don’t you know how to have fun?
Glitter asked.
I do,
Basil looked up this time. I prefer to read.
What do you think you’re going to learn?
Glitter was getting snottier by the minute.
Depends on what I’m reading,
was Basil’s nonchalant answer.
So what is it today?
she asked as if she really wanted to know.
Molecular science,
he replied. I’m learning about atoms.
Boring.
Twitter hoped Glitter would give
