About this ebook

The Malloys are back and they're taking over the neighbourhood! Dubbed 'Spitfire' by her older brother, Reba Malloy is a fiery red-head with the feisty personality to match. Against her family's wishes, she's moved to Calgary to be with her older brothers and finds a job working at a hair salon. Not to be outdone by the 'boys', she's on a mission to prove that she can drink, cuss, and flirt with the best of them. But along the way it jeopardizes her dearest friendship, as well as her relationship with the family.

Note to readers: This series, although labelled 'Christian', does contain elements that may be troubling to some readers, such as the use of alcohol as well as pre-marital sexual encounters. (The latter take place 'off camera'.) There is, however, a faith based element throughout with a strong redemptive message at the end of the series

Neighbourhood Rebel - Volume 3 - REBA - Tracy Krauss

    SCENE 1

I ’m so excited I’m gonna burst! Reba swept a pile of dark curls into a dustpan and dumped it in the trash. Gemini’s, the salon where she worked for the Carravagio twins, was closing for the day and the three women were doing their final clean up.

    Why’s that? Andrea Carravagio asked.

My brothers Will and Pip are arriving tonight from Newfoundland. We’ll be gettin’ on the beer soon as they land, it’s like.

Andrea blinked once as she tried to mentally interpret what was just said. Goodness! There sure are a lot of you!

It was true. Reba was the second youngest in a family of nine children - not such a novelty in her home province of Newfoundland as it might be elsewhere. She had moved west to Calgary, Alberta just a couple of months ago with her brother Bo. They’d joined their eldest brother Jed and currently still lived with him. It was tight, but soon enough she and Bo planned on getting their own apartment if they could find one that was reasonable in price.

Are they anything like the rest of you? Angela, the other owner, asked.

Reba furrowed her brow and thought about it for a few seconds. Depends. I mean, look at you two. You’re exactly alike and yet you couldn’t be more different. It was true. The Carravagio sisters were identical twins and as far as the physical went, they were equally big boned and curvaceous. But Andrea was as soft spoken as the pastel colours she favoured, while Angela was brash and bold like the revealing clothes she preferred.

Are they more like Jed or Bo? Andrea asked.

Neither. Will is the least Malloy like as far as looks, although he has Jed’s dark colouring. And Pip’s just a scrawny version of Zeb.

The brother from Fort Mac, Angela said with a nod. I remember him.

He’s coming down for a visit, too, Reba explained, not able to contain the excitement in her voice. It’s been awhile since we were all together. The only ones missing will be my three sisters, but they have kids. And my parents, of course, but they don’t count.

How fun for you! Andrea exclaimed.

    I know, eh?

Well, ladies? We ready to lock up? Angela looked around the room for any last tasks. Since they all lived in the same apartment complex, Reba had been fortunate to get a ride to and from work each day with the sisters since starting work at Gemini’s.

When they arrived at the apartment building, Reba jumped from Angela’s small vehicle and jogged to the building, not bothering to wait for the other women. It was March, and although spring was around the corner, snow was piled along the perimeter of the parking lot.

She skidded to a stop inside the building when her brother Bo met her in the foyer. Are they here yet? she asked, breathless.

No. Jed went to the airport to pick them up. Bo was big and broad, like most of the Malloy men, with a ginger complexion and sandy blonde hair.

What? I thought they’d be here hours ago! Reba scowled.

I think Pip got the times mixed up when he tried to convert Newfoundland time to Alberta time. He forgot about the extra half hour. Anyway, I’m off to work and Jed is going to bring them straight down to the Urban Cowboy from the airport. I told him they’d be too bagged after such a long flight, but you know Jed.

What about Zeb? What time does he get in? Reba asked.

Driving down. I imagine he’ll hook up with us there as well.

    "It’s gonna
