    Iturned each page of the New Age Heroes comic book slowly, careful not to hum. I wasn’t reading it. I was biding my time waiting for Edge to say something, anything really, since I’d entered

    Man, was it hot today. The outside temperature had been over ninety every day for the past week. At least his parent’s recreation room was below ground so it was a little cooler

    As was our custom we met in the faux wood-paneled recreation room. It is the headquarters of The Razor and Edge Detective Agency. As he usually did Edge sat in his Barcalounger recliner spooning rice crisp cereal and milk into his mouth. And as usual I was sitting on the aging gray sofa with the sagging cushions that too often force me to shift my bottom to escape an out of control spring.

    On the aluminum TV tray next to his chair laid today’s issue of the New York Times with the headline that caused Edge to fall into silence the moment I placed it on

    His grey-green eyes were fixed on a spot on the wall across the room. It was my best friends habit to consider all the known facts before making any verbal observations. Edge has no tolerance for small talk. It had been fifteen minutes and my nerves threatened to overwhelm me unless he
