About this ebook

Youth Empowerment Series
Success has no age limit. However, it requires meticulous thinking followed by commitment. It all starts in your mind. Just think about it, plan it, and execute it. Make sure that you do not lose focus. Distractors will surely be there. Develop a strategy to counter them. Be determined to the course and enjoy life as you go along.

Most importantly, make sure that you build wealth that will last long. There is nothing as heart-warming as leaving an indelible mark that touches other people’s lives. It should be a positive mark in a form of a legacy. Build a foundation of life for generations to come.

The present moment presents you with such an opportunity. As we cannot control our past, let us focus our attention on the present and the future. Make certain that you spend your time wisely. Those who make more money than others know how to invest their time. Time and money are like peace and prosperity. They perfectly complement each other. They are reciprocally intertwined and interrelated.

Use your time prudently, make money, build your wealth, empower the less fortunate and engrave your name in the good books of history. YES, YOU CAN DO IT.......BECAUSE YOU ARE:

Young, Optimistic, Unparalleled, Tenacious & Heroic.

    Acknowledgements

Firstly, I would like to thank God for giving me the wisdom and strength to complete this assignment.

This is dedicated to my late parents, Dikoloi Godfrey Selolo (father) and Seemole Rosina Selolo (mother). I also thank my brothers, sisters, all family members, friends, colleagues and everyone whose support and encouragement I could not do without.

Special gratitude goes to my lovely wife, Gertrude, and to my delightful kids as they were all understanding and supportive when the chips were down.

For the excellent advice, proofreading and helpful comments on the first manuscript, my special thanks go to my niece, Kwena, and all who contributed in this regard.

    About the Author

He has qualifications of a varied nature, which include, among others: Secondary Teachers’ Diploma, Further Diploma in Education Management, National Diploma in Law (Paralegal Studies), qualification as an assessor, LLB, and Master of Business Administration Degree (MBA).

He is also an admitted advocate of the High Court of South Africa.

    Foreword

The book contains a sequence of invented, but authentic short stories, all designed to empower young minds. It is dominated by motivational and highly informative themes, which include educational, political, social, economic and legal issues. The book is more of a call for action than the unfolding of new concepts.

The following propelled me to compile the book:

An aspiration to positively contribute to the welfare of South Africa as part of Africa and the world.

The fact that it is human nature to evolve, and the best way to do it is by becoming lifelong learners.

South Africa suffers from a chronic shortage of entrepreneurs, causing the high rate of joblessness.

To unlock that untapped entrepreneurial spirit in the youth.

The youth needs to be galvanised and not accept a mediocre kind of life.

Our present socio-economic conditions that have negative long-lingering effects.

We all need to perpetually and interminably interrogate the status quo in a manner that is both logical and legal.

    Chapter 1

Be educated and enjoy the fruits and freedom that go with it. When I was growing up, I was told over and over that education is a key to success. I never questioned the veracity of this statement or never asked whoever told me to explain it further. I just accepted it literally as it is, and what followed thereafter was hard work all the way. This saying is as old as the word ‘old’ itself and it has been relevant all the way through.

Analysing this statement, one realises that education, whether formal, informal or both, is important to one’s life. The word ‘key’ as used in the statement refers to that small item usually made of metal that we use to unlock a locked door. This is my supposition. In the same breath, education unlocks your potential. It gives you a different perspective of life as a phenomenon. It makes you a master of your own fate. In simple terms, it makes you a better person.

However, it is not just any kind of education that will do wonders to one’s life. It is a well-structured, quality and future-oriented kind of education. It is the kind of education that seeks to address the present and the imminent needs of society. It is a learner-aligned kind of enlightenment. It is the kind of learning that takes into account individual needs of different learners. It is the kind of education that acknowledges the truth about our political, social and economic past. I am referring to the system that is evolving to correct the present social ills, and strives to bring about economic fairness and inclusivity.

Truth be told, our democratic government has been working untiringly to improve the lives of millions of our people. A lot has been done and a lot more still needs to be done. For that, we need to say bravo to all those who contributed and to those who still contribute to the benefit of our people.

To those heroes and heroines who are no more part of this world, we say your efforts shall not be in vain. We shall take over the cudgel and run the course. We will always remember you. Whenever and wherever your name is mentioned, we shall proudly say: That’s one of our own; that’s our protagonist; that’s our messiah, our liberator and our saviour. We shall forever be proud of you. You occupy a special place in our hearts. You left us a rich legacy. The legacy we
