I have been writing since I was eight. I started out with poetry. Eventually, I moved on to short fantasy stories, then eventually books. I have always loved books, whether I was reading them or writing them. Books have always been a perfect escape from reality. When I was growing up, I admired authors and I always imagined I would eventually be one. The primary genre I write is fantasy romance. I love creating tough heroines and sexy vampires, werewolves, Fae, and every other supernatural creature I can come up with. I also write new adult romance when I am in the right mood. I want my readers to get the same joy from reading my stories that I do when I read some of my favorite authors.

    Chapter 1

A broken neck wasn’t such a terrible thing considering what was waiting for me when I woke up. I was slowly coming out of the fog, and the only thing I could think was I wouldn’t mind the darkness for a little longer. I didn’t want to find out what I was waking up to; I was sure it wasn’t anything good. When I finally decided I could no longer pretend, I opened my eyes. I blinked a couple times, trying to clear my head. I was on the cold, hard floor. I didn’t recognize the place, but I was sure it wasn’t a place I wanted to be.

Oh good, you’re awake. The sound of Dante’s voice made me cringe. I could hear his footsteps approaching me.

I turned my head slightly, and watched him approach. Where the fuck am I?

He looked at his watch, and then smiled down at me. Two hours to recover ... very impressive. He was completely ignoring my question.

I groaned as I sat up. Yay me. What the hell do you want? I wasn’t in a very good mood, and I was going to make sure he knew it.

He laughed. I already told you. This is where you will be trained to be a marshal.

I scoffed. I don’t want to be a fucking marshal. What is it with you people not taking no for an answer?

I never asked for an answer because that would imply I gave you a choice. I didn’t give you a choice, Elise. You will become a marshal and serve the council as you were meant to. He turned and started walking away. Come, come. It’s getting late.

I scowled as I slowly climbed to my feet. I didn’t like this one bit. I didn’t want to be a Marshal, but he seemed determined. Where the hell am I? Can you at least tell me that?

He smiled as he held the door open for me. No.

I stepped through the door and waited for him. I briefly considered running. There were no Marshals around. I was pretty sure Dante didn’t need them. He could easily take me out if he felt like it. I was pretty sure I would cause myself more problems than I wanted. I decided to wait and see if I could reason my way out of the mess I was in.

The place we were in was old. The walls were stone. The halls were dimly lit by lanterns. It reminded me of an old castle, or an underground compound. I wasn’t sure which it would be. The walls were bare. There was no indication that anyone actually lived here. I doubted Dante called this place home. It just didn’t seem like his style.

Dante stopped in front of a door. He unbarred it and pushed it open. He looked at me expectantly. This is where you will be staying while you are here.

I crossed my arms and glared at him. The door is barred from the outside.

    He smiled. It is.

I narrowed my eyes in annoyance. He thought the whole thing was amusing. Am I a prisoner then?

Until you accept your position ... yes, you are. Now please, go inside and rest. We will start your training in a few hours. His expression remained cool and calm. I was waiting for him to start laughing and telling me it was all a joke.

I sighed when his expression never changed. I knew I didn’t have a choice. I didn’t want to walk in that damn cell, but it wasn’t like I was in any position to fight him. I clenched my hands into fists. Fine, but I’m not agreeing to anything. I want to speak to whoever is in charge of the damn council.

He shut the door and barred it. He smiled at me through the small barred opening in the door. You are speaking to him. Now get some rest. He was gone before I could even think about protesting.

Fuck you too! I called after him. I looked around the little cell for the first time. I didn’t pay any attention when I walked in. I was too busy being annoyed. The place was barely big enough for me. The only thing in the small cell was a small mattress on the floor in the corner. You have to be fucking kidding me! I was yelling at no one in particular. I was furious.

An amused male voice interrupted my rant. Suck it up, buttercup. It doesn’t get any better.

I walked to the door and looked through the bars. There was a male vampire in the cell across from me. I was suddenly curious. I was hoping to learn all I could about this place. If he was here long enough he would have valuable information. Who are you?

    Who are you? he countered.

I rolled my eyes. He was going to be one of those ... useless and annoying. I walked over to the little mattress and sat down.

Hey wait ... come back. I haven’t seen another person other than the damn Marshals in forever. He actually sounded worried I wouldn’t talk to him anymore.

I sighed as I stood. I walked back to the door. How long have you been here?

He shrugged. Too long. They don’t let us keep track of time in here. He smiled. My name is Jace. What’s yours?

Elise. I was a little worried. I didn’t want to stay locked in this little room forever. Is this what they call training?

He laughed harshly. No. This is how they try to make us comply.

I was a little confused. Comply how?

You have to take Dante’s blood and bond with him. That’s what gives him complete control over you. The rules are that the vampire has to be willing to bond, if you aren’t, you get tossed in here. They attempt to convince you to see things their way. He sounded like he thought the whole thing was funny.

So you refused? I was even more curious about him now. Maybe he was like me. He didn’t like the idea of being played like a puppet.

He scoffed, disappearing from view. Damn right I did. I’m two hundred and thirty seven years old; the days of me having a master are long gone. I would rather rot in here. What about you, buttercup? Are you going to submit?

I closed my eyes, trying not to lose my temper. I don’t know, I muttered. I walked over to the mattress and sat back down.

If it makes you feel any better the marshals are treated like royalty wherever they go. Hell, there are very few female marshals. I think the last one died a while back. That’s probably why Dante picked you. Everyone knows he’s been looking for a replacement. His tone was way too cheerful for someone locked up like an animal.

So they just make you sit in this cell until you what ... go insane and agree? It didn’t make sense and the more I thought about it the less sense it made.

He laughed like I told a funny joke. No. They also torture you and deny you blood ... you know all the fun stuff.

I scowled. How is it the rule says we have to be willing to take his blood, but then he will torture us until we do?

There is no rule against convincing us to willingly take his blood. There’s always a loophole in everything, buttercup. His light demeanor was really annoying me. He should’ve been furious like I was. Instead, he was acting like he was on a fucking vacation.

I stared at the ceiling trying to think clearly. Hunger was nagging at me. Usually after I got injured I fed, but he didn’t give me the option. I had a feeling there was a reason for that after talking to Jace. Dante wanted me nice and hungry when he gave me an ultimatum. I gritted my teeth, trying to think past the annoyance. There had to be a way around this. I couldn’t transport; there was some kind of block on the place. I knew only witches could do that. There had to be another option. You don’t think it would be smarter to take Dante’s blood, and then find a way to break his bond once you’re free?

He laughed even harder this time. He had a nice laugh, but right now it was really pissing me off. Dante isn’t just any master vampire. He’s the master vampire ... like the oldest. If you take his blood, you might as well kiss your entire life goodbye, buttercup. You won’t be any better than a puppet on a string.

I groaned and slung my arm over my eyes. I knew there was a reason Christian immediately complied when Dante spoke. He didn’t argue or make threats because he knew better. He knew he was no match for Dante. I didn’t know what the hell I was going to do. I wasn’t one to submit, but sitting in this cell didn’t seem like something I wanted to do either.

I decided I was going to attempt to get some rest. I had a feeling it might be the last time I did, depending on what I decided to do next.

    Chapter 2

I opened my eyes when the door opened. I was surprised when two marshals were waiting on the other side. I expected Dante to retrieve me, but I was obviously wrong.

The marshal on the right spoke. Time to go.

I slowly got to my feet. Where are you taking me? I didn’t like all the secrecy. I preferred to know what was coming.

Where you’re supposed to go, the second marshal snapped. He was going to be an asshole and not give me any information. They both turned and stepped out of the room.

I sighed and followed them out. I considered fighting, but I felt weak. I knew the marshals would be on top of their game. I would be in big trouble if I started a fight I couldn’t finish. They led me down the hall to a set of double doors. One of them opened the door without knocking. They both stood on each side of the door and looked at me.

The marshal that seemed like he was in a mood scowled. Go inside before I make you.

I decided not to waste my time arguing with them. I walked into the room. It was a
