*Not every poem included in this book is dated in chronological order. This is not an oversight on my part. Rather, I have made changes and substitutions over the years.
-J.L.S.
Just as I’m blooming,
One day, I’m going to rot.
We can use the analogy of
Other living beings.
The human body’s only beautiful
For a short period of time—
Racing against the clock to
Maintain ourselves, what a
Difficult thing to have to do!
The pressure is almost unbearable;
It’s enough to drive one insane.
Disturbing thoughts dancing around
In my head.
Can anyone extinguish these
Malicious beings before they
Take my mind away?
Their breath on my ear
And their smell on my body;
Give me back my perfect dream!
2/2/01
It’s cold outside, for God’s sake,
Would you mind closing the door?
How does one expect me to take this;
All the impurities from the outside
Coming in?
The land of the dead lets go of
Some of its creatures.
Drifting through the wilderness,
Waiting for an innocent victim—
Preying on their bodies and
Feasting on their minds.
How is one supposed to focus
On the good things?
They cannot find the time, unless
The right moment suddenly arrives
When people are unaware—the
Most susceptible time lies ahead,
Remaining unconscious.
The shrewd cold is finally getting
To my head, would someone please
Shut the door?
I don’t want to fall victim to the
Frosty demons outside,
Not right when my
Concentration’s essential.
Never…when I want my thoughts
To matter.
2/2/01
Reaching out, calling to the
People of the world.
Raising my hand into the air,
Where everyone can see.
I give all my emotions
And true thoughts to you.
All I ask in return is that
Everyone listen to what I have to say.
The grand marching of the day
Is about to take place.
Let us all remember peace
And how we’re supposed to
Treat each other.
No malicious intent is
Allowed to happen
When I’m in charge of
Everyone’s motivations.
Can we all not be so civil so that
All the issues may be resolved?
Time is running out,
But my thoughts are
Running clear.
Stay away from me when
I’m in a foul mood;
You don’t want my worst
