The author of this epic work of this glorious people that are the Lusitanian from the kingdom of Portugal produced poetry in the eighth rhyme telling the History of Portugal since the King Sebastian to our times.
José Braz Pereira da Cruz
Poeta, Escritor e Artista Plástico. Foi na pintura de arte, na poesia e na escrita que Zeca Cruz, assim era tratado entre os amigos, se evidenciou e dignificou a terra onde nasceu. Foi sócio correspondente da sociedade nacional de belas artes, aluno do Colégio Moderno, em Lisboa, onde se iniciou em desenho e pintura e frequentou o 2º ano da Faculdade de Direito de Lisboa. Iniciou a actividade artística em Angola, vindo a enveredar pela reprodução, na tela, de motivos do Algarve típico. Desenvolveu notória actividade pictórica numa relação com o turismo, visando focalizar as traças urbanísticas, na sua genuinidade, como parâmetro de preservação e resistência a excessos duma arquitectura de concepção moderna. É mencionado no livro "Artes Plásticas de Portugal - O artista seu Mercado", que insere o seu currículo e reproduz um dos seus mais apreciados trabalhos, de óleo sobre tela, cujo motivo é o Arco da Barreta, primeiro prémio da Mocidade Portuguesa nas comemorações henriquinas (1960). Fez acompanhar este seu trabalho de um ensaio sobre a Vida do Infante D. Henrique, cujo livro dedicou aos pais. Foi sócio da Associação dos Antigos Alunos do Colégio Moderno (Lisboa), Elos de Olhão, Sociedade da Independência de Portugal, Real Associação do Algarve e da União de Cultura Espiritualista de Olhão. Apresentou os seus trabalhos em várias exposições individuais e participou noutras de sinal colectivo, tendo-lhe sido atribuídos um Diploma de Honra numa exposição individual na Casa do Algarve em Almada, com o apoio da edilidade almadense (1989) e uma Menção Honrosa numa colectiva organizada pela Galeria Nova Era, em Faro (1991). Concluía, quando a morte o surpreendeu, um livro de poesia, abrindo este com um poema intitulado Ditosa Pátria Nossa Amada, que teve a oportunidade de ler ao Duque de Bragança, na Quinta de S. Vicente, em Monchique, por ocasião de um almoço ocorrido em 25 de Abril de 1994, visando o convívio de elementos activos da Real Associação do Algarve.
