About this ebook

She has a ring on her finger. He doesn’t care.

To prevent unwanted advances from horny jerks, Serena Lee’s friend gave her a fake engagement ring. And it has worked like magic—until she encounters Shawn Choi, her overly possessive and controlling (but ridiculously sexy) ex, in a coffee shop. Despite the rock on her finger, Shawn relentlessly pursuits her. His goal—to get her in his bed and to put a ring of his own on that little finger.

***A contemporary romance novelette featuring insta-love and an over-the-top alpha male lead***

Excerpt:

He took her hand, frowning. “Is that an engagement ring?”

She ripped her hand away from his, hoping the ring would work its guy-repelling magic. “Yes.”

“It’s a lot smaller than the one I offered you.”

Oh, Jesus fucking Christ. “Size doesn’t matter.”

“Oh, we both know that’s not true.”

She bristled at his double entendre. “My fiance is waiting for me at home. He has a black belt.”

Amusement shone in his brown eyes. “Was that supposed to scare me?”

Why wasn’t he letting up? He was actually sliding closer to her body instead of farther away from her. “I have a fiance,” she said.

“And I’m supposed to care because...?” He lifted her chin, staring at her full lips, the lips he’d kissed at least hundreds of times that one summer.

When I manage to tear myself away from taking Buzzfeed quizzes and watching unhealthy amounts of TV, I write romance and smut. My works feature alpha males, sexy times, and/or my sarcastic sense of humor. I hail from Cleveland, aka the best freaking city in the world, and believe LeBron James is the perfect human being. Despite all of my efforts, I have never truly been able to quit caffeine. My favorites include Taylor Swift, Florence + the Machine, and SHINee. I love to hate/hate to love k-dramas. If I say I’m on a diet, I’m just lying to you and myself. One of these days, I'm going to get hypertension from an excess of salt, both literal and figurative. If I'm awkward around you, I probably don't know what to say to you and/or I think you're hot. And despite what anyone says, Forrest Gump so deserved that Oscar over Pulp Fiction.

Chapter 1

Serena Lee sighed when the blond guy kept staring at her chest. He was cute with his dimpled cheeks and baby blue eyes, but his t-shirt had Charlie Sheen’s face on it with the word WINNING underneath the actor’s smug grin. Thanks but no thanks. Repressing the urge to tell the guy, Hey, buddy, my eyes are up here, she silently raised her hand and brushed a few strands of hair away from her forehead. Predictably, when the Charlie Sheen fan saw the two-carat ring on her finger, he turned his head and stared at the coffee shop’s menu on the wall.

Thank you, Janine. After Serena had complained about a horny jerk hitting on her without invitation for the hundredth time, her friend Janine had presented her with a cubic zirconia ring.

Wow, Janine, Serena had said when she’d seen the sparkling rock. Though I’m flattered and I do love you, I only see you as a friend.

Janine had rolled her eyes. This is a fake engagement ring.

Okay, I’m confused. Why are you giving me this?

I figure douche bags will stop trying to get into your pants if you start wearing it.

Does that actually work?

Won’t hurt to find out.

To Serena’s surprise, the ring worked as dickhead repellant. Guys backed off like that once she flashed them the knockoff diamond. The success of the ring also enhanced her disgust toward horny jerks. They wouldn’t leave her alone when she would give them obvious hints that she would only go home with them over her dead body, but they would keep their distance when they thought she was the property of another man. Ugh.

She glanced at her watch. She’d been in line for over ten minutes. Were people ordering lattes laced with gold or something? Good thing she had nowhere to be.

When she looked up, she froze. Shawn Choi, her overly possessive and controlling (but ridiculously sexy) ex, sat at a table across the room, sipping a cup of black coffee while hunched over a MacBook. She was ashamed to admit that her heart skipped a beat when she looked at his chiseled cheekbones and firm biceps that still managed to reveal themselves under the sleeves of his white silk shirt. And oh, how she felt like slapping herself when a little longing ran through her veins at the memory of his strong, warm arms wrapped around her as he kissed her up against the wall. Shaking her head, she walked toward the door, so she could leave the coffee shop without him noticing her. Of course, just as she touched the door, she heard a deep voice call out, Serena!

Shit, she thought. Would it be cowardly of me to run away right now?

But he seized her wrist before she could escape.

Damn, he moves fast.

Hello, Serena, he said with a smile on his unblemished face.

She struggled to return his smile. Hi, Shawn.

You have somewhere you need to be?

Yes, I have a fiance with a black belt waiting for me at home! No. Since when was her own mouth a traitor?

He smirked. You’re trying to get away from me.

She sighed. God, his bluntness annoyed her. At one point, she had found it refreshing, but now she just saw it as one of his qualities that contributed to him being an asshole. Okay, yes. To be perfectly honest, painful small talk with one of my exes is not one of my favorite activities, so I should go.

Let me buy you coffee.

Are you deaf? I said—

I know what you said. He dragged her to the counter.

A few people in line glared at them. We can’t cut in front of all these people!

He waved her words away. My friend owns this coffee shop. What do you want?

I don’t want anything!

A blue-haired guy wearing thick black frames appeared behind the counter. Yo, Shawn, want another cup of black coffee?

Nothing for me. But Serena would like an iced caramel macchiato and two blueberry scones. Shawn asked her, You still like those, right?

She let out an exasperated breath. Yes, but—

The blue-haired guy raised his eyebrows at her. Serena? Wait, don’t tell me this is the infamous Serena Lee.

One and only, Shawn replied.

The blue-haired guy shook his head. Heart-breaker, he said, but there was no malice
