About this ebook

Richard and Ash are actors who first meet as kids.

They take an immediate dislike to each other and spend the next 13 years stewing in the juices of resentment and barely hidden derision.

They work together briefly in their teens and then have no professional contact until a big project comes up, which sees them inevitably being thrown together once more.

Given the nature of the roles they’re being asked to play, coupled with their animosity an explosion is surely inevitable.

The only question is just who will be willing to pick up the pieces afterwards?

    Part of the Thespians Universe

The kid giving him the stink-eye was all legs and hair – completely unsuited for the part. Richard didn’t know why he’d even turned up – the part called for a pretty, fair-haired boy. This kid was dark and not at all pretty, his eyes dominating his face in a way that was a little worrying.

He’d been taught to be polite, though, and although he’d seen the jealous looks cast his way practically every time he turned up to one of these things – and got the part – he wasn’t one to ever forget his manners.

His mum was waiting for him in the outer room, patient as always, though he knew she really didn’t understand this ‘acting thing’ and it was with her lessons in mind that he approached Bambi (those legs didn’t seem like they’d be able to support him and the eyes were huge and brown - Bambi).

    Hello. Your first time?

Bambi stared at him. No, yours?

Ugh, a Cockney – definitely unsuitable.

No, I was at the Oliver audition in London.

Bambi snorted. London. Course it was in London. You mean Drury Lane.

Richard bristled. No need to be snide. Typical arrogant Londoner; they thought their little town was the centre of the Universe. Well, it might seem that way but he’d been to New York and London definitely wasn’t as big as New York! Yes, Drury Lane.

You didn’t get the part then. He appeared to be smirking.

Oh I was fine with the acting, I just need to work on the singing.

The snort was loud and incredibly rude. "Well, it is a fucking musical, I’d have thought you’d have ‘worked’ on the singing before turning up to the audition."

He refused to rise to this. Can you sing?

    Like a bird.

Well, that wasn’t likely to get him a part in any musical Richard could think of –well, perhaps Doctor Doolittle. I’ve taken tap, but-

Bambi laughed out loud, loud enough to attract the attention of all the other nervous (fair-haired) boys in the small anteroom. You what? You an actor or a poofter?

It’s rude to call people that.

    Are you?

    What?

    A poofter.

Richard bristled indignantly. No, I’m not, but even-

    "You
