About this ebook
The demon attempts to divide the Rickettes' household in an endless evil assault.
Its power may be too much for Joseph to handle alone as he learns more about Andrea's past with her sister, Jessica. The haunting novella series continues, with the next intense episode answering more questions about Andrea’s nightmares and the demon that haunts her. Joseph’s gift is severely tested by the demon out to cross over into the real world and take his wife’s soul. Joseph battles his own demons as his wife, marriage, and life are all put in jeopardy.

No Turning Back
Joseph felt better after being honest with Andrea because she believed him. That was his saving grace. This rejuvenated him and refreshed his outlook on delving back into his gift again. He felt bad about not telling her of his recent encounter with the demon. It was such a negative thing to bring up, he worried her building confidence would have been wiped out. He had to figure out a way to battle the demon before he went back in. Everything has a weakness, but if this monster had one, it would be hard to find. Just the thought of confronting the devil was too much to comprehend and made him nauseous.
He had to have a plan the next time and knew there was no room for even the slightest mistake. If this thing had that much power, why hasn’t it already killed Andrea as it did Jessica? And why didn’t it just kill him that night? These things puzzled him, but there had to be a reason, unless it was just toying with them for its own sick pleasure.
Andrea’s dreams were different each time, and his dream was nothing like hers. He paced his home office, playing his dream over and over and desperately searching for a way to stop this madness.
The sun dropping in the western sky cast sunlight and shadows on the walls of his office through the windows. Night approached fast and over that time he worked on a game plan, but he still had no clue how to go forward. The proverbial knife in his side was the fact that he wasn’t sure he could get into her exact dreams. The demon had laughed so confidently, as if it already knew the outcome. He sat at his desk running his hands through his hair in frustration.
Andrea sat in bed thinking of Jessica and their conversation, and how her sister was fighting to stay awake . . . and stay alive. She was right, this was the same demon and monster from their childhood. Why it came back, she had no idea. Do I need to do the same as her and stay awake as much as I can? Andrea knew that was a temporary fix, and she would eventually fall asleep. Her hope was that Joseph would be able to use his power to work with her and end this nightmare. If the circumstances had been any different, she doubted she would believe anything he told her. But this was a completely different situation and her belief in the supernatural had been burned into her since her childhood. She put all her confidence in Joseph but was afraid of what her next dream might bring.
Andrea finally drifted off to sleep.
Jessica grabbed Andrea by the hand, leading her through a dark forest filled with trees so tall they blocked out the bright moonlight. Jessica smiled as she looked back at her younger sister, the dried leaves crunching under their feet. They both wore the pajamas their mother bought them when they were kids. Andrea looked at her sister and the surroundings, taking in this precious moment. This dream was no nightmare, so she continued with an open mind, not knowing where they were going.
Jessica held Andrea’s hand tightly with no chance of them losing their grip. The forest parted a few yards ahead and opened up into a clearing. The clearing introduced a small lake with the sounds of a waterfall not far off. The moonlight reflected off the lake’s glassy surface in a sparkling glitter. Jessica stopped at the water’s edge and looked at Andrea, smiling with pride. Andrea smiled at her sister and looked at the peaceful waterfall. In her eyes, everything was perfect.
What is this place?
she asked her sister.
Jessica only smiled and brought her finger to her lips. Shh.
She pulled Andrea as they made their way toward the waterfall.
Andrea, filled with so many questions, kept quiet and followed her. She didn’t know how her sister was there, but it didn’t matter, she was with her again and didn’t want anything to ruin their moment. The grass and leaves under their feet got cooler as they neared the waterfall. The sound of the waterfall reminded her of their adventures to the creeks when they were kids. Maybe this was the reason they were here, to remember the good times.
A baby doll floated near the water's edge, swaying back and forth in the waterfall's ripples. Andrea let go of Jessica’s hand and reached down to pick up the doll. She recognized it from her childhood—a doll Jessica had given her—her favorite doll. She smiled.
Water dripped from its wet, black hair. One eye was missing, and strangely, the usual happy expression was replaced with sadness. She looked at the doll, puzzled at its appearance, then looked to her sister.
Jessica no longer smiled, a worried look came over her face. She shook her head left and right as she looked at the doll in Andrea’s hands.
Not understanding, Andrea looked down at the doll. It smoldered in her hands, its face melting and becoming a mess of charred plastic.
Jessica slapped the doll from her hands and it landed in the water with a splash. Streams of smoke rose above it, with it finally bursting into flames. She grabbed Andrea’s hand and quickly led her away to the side of the waterfall. Their pace doubled and Jessica’s grip on Andrea’s hand was much too tight for a fun stroll through the woods. Everything became more bizarre by the second.
Their feet splashed in the cold spillover from the waterfall as they trotted on the dark trail behind it. The trail grew darker as they went deeper into this new cluster of woods. The cool, refreshing air from the lake and waterfall was all but gone behind them. The woods became damp, humid, and musty.
Jessica slowed as they approached a small opening in the brush. At this point, any clean air was gone, and breathing became difficult. They walked to a rock wall and as they got closer, they saw it was actually a cluster of big rocks and boulders. Jessica, still holding her hand, walked around the nearest facing, and out of nowhere, an opening appeared in the center of the rocks.
A blast of hot air blew past them from the cave entrance. As the short heatwave ended, they inhaled, trying to take in cleaner, more breathable air. Jessica looked at Andrea, let go of her
