*Not every poem included in this book is dated in chronological order.  This is not an oversight on my part. Rather, I have made changes and substitutions over the years.

    -J.L.S.

    L’Enfant

Some child with his so-called family,

And very seldom, I must know

I can say that I have sympathy

    For a being so small—

A being raised entirely the wrong way.

What will he grow up to see,

And what is he going to know?

    Parents instilling backwards values,

Or instilling nothing correct at all

    Such a shame to witness.

    9/2/03

Now, my dear, I am back.

    These months have taken

    Something away, but my

Love for you has not disappeared

    Or gone astray.

    That is one thing which

    Still remains the same,

    Even though our visits are

    Not quite as frequent.

I still make room in my heart

For you, so that part does not

Have to fear, but I hope you

    Have done the same because

I know that we are destined

To be together, in this life.

    Nothing else would be right!

    1/6/04

You have trespassed down my lane,

    But I do not mind.

    Did you hurry as not to be seen;

Such a trivial thing you will find

    Come out from your hiding,

For you have nothing more to fear.

I will not bite, unless you want it,

And I can see from your eyes

    That you might like it.

Nothing I can do seems to faze you,

Which could be seen as the

    Beauty of it all.

    C’est la vie,

    C’est l‘amour.

    1/6/04

Ah, now I have seen the one

    Who has tried to run away;

    All these years have proved

    To be unsuccessful.

Why does everyone have to be

So afraid of the things that

    Are most unlikely to happen?

    Outside, the dogs can smell

    Fear
