      Nora Crandle held her lace-edged handkerchief to her nose wishing her journey were over.  She comforted herself that they were on the last leg of the trip to Blue Creek.  At that thought, her hand trembled as she tried to keep the dust at bay that seeped into the stage.  She was a mail order bride, and soon to meet her intended.

      Thoughts of the letters that she’d exchanged with her husband to be filled her mind and her heart.  Clay Denton seemed to be a sincere man, hard working all his life, and was lonesome.  His wife passed five years before and he said it took him a long time to come to terms with it.  He wanted a wife to stand beside him in his later years.  She smiled at that thought.  Forty years old was not that ancient, but his letters made him seem older.  It didn’t bother her that he was eight years older than she.  Her chances of marrying back home were slim.  The only man who ever offered was Charles Greedy, the town banker.  When her aunt died, Nora learned she was the sole heir, and quite wealthy, which she figured was the reason Charles offered to marry her in the first place.  She kept that
