About this ebook

From one generation to another, the servants of the Lord have sought to edify their fellow-believers by commenting on the Old Testament narrative. In such ministries expositions of the life of Elijah have always been prominent. His sudden appearance out of complete obscurity, his dramatic interventions in the national history of Israel, his miracles, his departure from earth in a chariot of fire, all serve to captivate the thought of preacher and writer alike. The New Testament sustains this interest. If Christ Jesus is the Prophet "like unto Moses," Elijah, too, has his New Testament counterpart in John—the greatest of the prophets. And even more remarkably, Elijah himself in living person reappears to view when, with Moses, he stands on the mount of "the excellent glory," "to speak of the strife that won our life with the incarnate Son of God."

Anything written by A W Pink is brilliant. He and his wife were an interesting couple. They couldn't have children and Pink was the kind of man that no church was good enough for, but in their rather isolated way, God drew them into deep fellowship with Himself. Pink was no light weight and neither are his books. They are all very, very Biblical, detailed and very close to the scriptures he so loved and revered. He quotes scripture continually and this book is no exception. You will find any work by him will really challenge you, grow your faith and led you into a closer walk with Jesus! Highly recommended.

This book though quite dated still remains one of the few that focuses on the life of the Jewish prophet Elijah. Elijah the Tishbite is virtually unknown except in the Jewish Scriptures hence this biography. Mr. Pink is unafraid to show both the good & not so good side of this prophet. From the bold declarations to a lawless king to his flight from a threat from the king's consort, Mr. Pink holds nothing back. Yet through it all, he is sympathetic to Elijah whose common failings we can relate. There is, however, a strong anti-Catholic rant which flares here & there. In this, Mr. Pink allows his prejudices to blind him rather than to simply leave well enough alone. Nevertheless, in spite of this shortcoming, the work gives the reader a better view of Elijah's life in a time of laxed morals & injustices committed by the rulers & Elijah's challenge to stand firm against the prevailing winds of brutal oppression & cruel tyranny
