Witch's Brew: Marshall Drummond Case Files, #3

About this ebook
By the early 1930s, PI Marshall Drummond had built up an underground reputation in North Carolina as the man to turn to with cases involving the weird and unexplained. So, it should have come as no shock when a notorious gangster wanted to hire him. Even a Northern gangster.
But nothing is ever simple with criminals. What seems like a straightforward haunting reveals a callous crime, one that involves cold murder, shallow graves, and macabre ghosts. One that Drummond finds more and more difficult to get away from. So difficult, in fact, that he might even need the help of a witch, if he is to survive.
Welcome to the Marshall Drummond Case Files. These stories explore the dark mysteries and thrilling adventures of 1940s PI, Marshall Drummond, before he died and became the ghost detective found in the bestselling Max Porter Paranormal Mysteries.

FOR THE THIRD TIME, Marshall Drummond turned his head and tried to relax his body as a fist plowed into his cheek. Slick with blood, his face swelled while his captors pulled back for another strike. This was going to be a long day.
Only an hour before, Drummond had been sitting in Vera’s Diner, enjoying his morning coffee. Looking over the front page of the Winston-Salem Journal, he read the latest about mass unemployment, soup lines, and the dwindling sense that anything would dig the country out of its economic despair. FDR certainly had nothing new to offer. Things ahead looked bleak.
Clicking a nickel on the table, Drummond stood, set his Fedora on his head, put on his long coat, and planned to head into his office to start another day as a private investigator. That was when the two thugs walked right up to him. They were big, square-jawed men wearing cheap suits and expensive handguns
