About this ebook
“BLEEDING INK... Lost Life. Lost Friends. Lost Love.”
Based on true life events, Bleeding Ink depicts the excruciating pain of the author, E. M. Bless’On III, after surviving a car accident in 2003 that unfortunately took the young life of his best friend. Holding your best friend in your arms whiles he gasps for his last breath, is an image that can never leave you until you leave this earth. As painful as talking about the tragedy is, writing painstakingly became a remedy. Only words could cry for him and ink bleed for him. So here in this anthology, he navigates through a pool of emotions dealing with loss and how that changed his views on life, friendship and love. He also goes deeper with never-before-seen material on personal development, family, loyalty, betrayal, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mental health stigma, prejudice and unconscious bias.
In loving memory of Bennett Owusu Nyame aka Skelo and all my lost friends.
Have you ever had a direct encounter with death? Have you ever had conversation with death? Can you even picture that? What would be your first words? I survived (or so I thought)! Hunted by the image of my dear friend gasping for his last breath whilst lying helpless in my hands, I have been on a journey to recreate that image into a happy one – at least until the realisation of God's promise to resurrect our dead love(d) ones. I have since lived for the day where embrace and laughter would bond us forever but only through my imagination – at least for now. The only way I have been able to express my pain is through my poetry. Yet, for this experience of losing my closest friend and almost losing my own life, at a time in life where the fruit of our labour was reaching its full fruition, has never been easy to relate.
This is a compilation of poems and true life stories written over the last 20 years. Most of these writings I have never shared. I wrote letters I never posted. I expressed views I was too scared to share. I thought of what one would think of me. I had an image that needed protection, for we find solace in the fictional characters we create. Since death can take away the real characters in our lives, we become over-protective of our creations, not out of fear of the known but of the unknown. So I wrote anonymous stories, poems, songs and social commentaries and sometimes using other pen-names.
"... As a Social Commentator, he has the uncanny knack of painting vivid, moving images with words... Bless'On's delivery from start to finish invokes a resounding call to action to make something beautiful out of tragedy. Bleeding Ink is definitely a 'must-read'."
- John Lenney Jnr MBE, Musician/DJ/Producer and Founder of Radio Cardiff
“Bless’On’s writing is passionate and expressive. He makes his opinions and feelings very clear."
- Tom Cheesman, Professor of German (Swansea University), Author & Co-founder of Hafan Books
"The poems reflect a deep sense of art, maturity and passion for diversity which is aptly conveyed in the array of diverse poems... Readers will find these poems thought provoking, impactive and powerful. A brilliant read for all."
- Mrs. Uzo Iwobi OBE, CEO of Race Council Cymru & Founder of African Community Centre Wales

DEDICATION
My eternal gratitude is and always has been to God Jehovah, without whom I wouldn’t be here yesterday, today nor tomorrow! Thank you!
This book is dedicated to my everlasting comrade, Bennett Owusu Nyame aka Skelo (23/03/2003).
However, during the course of writing this book, I lost another dear friend, a spiritual guardian, Peter Tsitinakus (30/09/2016).
This one for you two! I miss you bro! ^-^ May Jehovah God keep you in his memory until I see you again...
‘‘ ³ With that I heard a loud voice from the throne say: Look! The tent of God is with mankind, and he will reside with them, and they will be his people. And God himself will be with them. 4 And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, AND DEATH WILL BE NO MORE, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.
– Revelation 21:3, 4 (NWT)
APPRECIATION
I fervently hope this book is to the glory of Jehovah God for His undeserved kindness, keeping me alive and His wondrous gift of speech/writing so I am able to share my and others’ stories.
There are so many people to thank, since without them I would have no inspiration nor story to write. I cannot name all but you do know yourselves. However, there remain a few I can’t help but mention for their length of service and loyalty. They put the comas, periods and accents in my stories, as well as their support in crossing the T’s and dotting the I’s in my life.
First, to the most loyal, inspiring and beautiful woman in the world, my number one fan Mama Vic Nora for always believing in me, as well as giving me many reasons to pursue spiritual goals before my dreams; and to my famILY, Dr. Bless Akotia for my education and inspiration from his love of books and travelling which inspired me to explore the world; Jeph, Biga, Jordan, Sowah, Zoe, George, Patri, Stephen aka Lil’ Speedy, Ebere, Javan, Amara, Elegance, Alfred, DJ Black, Nortse, Kwesi Saguar, the Morgan’s and the Kelleher’s for your loyal love and filling up the void. I can’t forget other friends and frienemies, lovers and heartbreakers, fans and disparagers, the known and unknown around the world whose stories and experiences flows through my ink in a positive and/or negative way.
Last but not the least, the Owusu Nyame family, especially Maa Vida for her strength, never-forgotten kind words and demeanour after the accident.
I APPRECIATE YOU ALL. THANK YOU FOR THE EXPERIENCES!
FOREWORD
Bless’On and I first met through our work in showbiz. Years later, upon his return from the U.K., we attended the same university, where we also met Nortse (who became our mutual friend and business partner). Residing in the same hall, our years on the campus of the university of Ghana, Legon was full of life and boisterous. Here, we really cemented our friendship and embarked on building our businesses and brands. Nortse and I hold our friend, Bless’On very dear to our hearts. Not only has he always inspired me to keep pushing and to go all out in whatever I do, he has also been there to support my dreams. Ever loyal, he even returned from the USA to help manage my portfolio. His attitude toward work is exemplary. His dedication and attention to detail surpasses everything.
When Bless’On or Spain Boy asked me to write the foreword to this amazing collection of poems, I was humbled and surprised because I know how important this book is to him. Losing a bosom friend knowing there won't be another conversation can only be eulogised the way he has done in this book. His ability to weave words to express different dimensions of his emotions will keep you turning the pages. I can barely remember the aftermath of the accident. However, in my opinion, it seemed to have opened up a new door to his way of expression. 'Espanya' (as I affectionately call him) was well known for his personality and bravado, which didn’t go without some negativity. And being in the public eye due to his work, I wondered how he would bounce back after the accident. The months and years that followed, he appeared to have overcome it.
We hardly spoke of the accident, but not much seems to have changed except his slow withdrawal from the public eye. I didn't make much of that as expected of maturity, though I realized his priorities changed over that period.
14 years on, reading his poems (some for the first time while others were previously published) I can only but now imagine the silent pain now put into words: he was bleeding ink...
However, I have also come to appreciate even more his fighting spirit and learn a lot
