      "Honey, where’s my blue tie?"

      The shout came from halfway around the world, otherwise known as the upstairs bedroom.  Jenna Marks didn’t even notice; it happened that frequently.  Whether motivated by excitement or anger, somebody in the Marks household--sometimes even Jenna herself--proclaimed it from on high instead of walking down the stairs and into the living room, where speakers could be more easily heard throughout the house without needing to bellow.

      No matter to her.  The eight year old girl refused to let anything interfere with her enjoyment of cartoons.  Not even her unbrushed blond hair.

      You walked right past me with it! a feminine voice replied from the other hemisphere: the downstairs bathroom.

      Softness brushed against Jenna’s bare shin, followed by a soft pat of light feline feet upon her outstretched back.  Something small, warm, and fluffy settled in between her shoulder blades and purred with delight. She smiled at the sensation.    

      I know I did!  Had it with me when I came out here, but I don’t know where it is now!

      A heavy-set face atop a well-dressed but bulging body waddled down the stairs.  His rounded, double chin--two for the price of one!--sported a couple of red spots, the evidence of a recent and not quite successful shave.   He walked into the living room, eyes darting this way and that, until they fell upon a dark strip atop the back of the beige couch.  

      Found it! he called.  Fat fingers clutched the tie in a stranglehold.
