Chandra Lopez-Brooks
Chandra Lopez Brooks is the President of Building Peaceful Families. In that role, she is the “face” of BPF in the community and the primary media contact. In her professional life, Chandra is the Northern California Staff Director for SEIU-USWW, one of the largest and most active unions in the country representing some of the most vulnerable workers in California. Before SEIU Chandra was the Business and Community Director for San Jose Jobs Corps, a Federal Residential Workforce Educational Program under the Department of Labor. While at Job Corps, Chandra established partnerships with organizations such as Levi Stadium, Smart & Final, Kaiser and The Valley Transportation Authority. In this position, Chandra recruited local Congress members Michael Honda, Anna Eshoo and Zoe Lofgren to join the Friends of Job Corps Caucus, a National Caucus that advises the National Job Corps Association.

Why I’m writing this book
Ten years ago, when I started following politics, I quickly figured out that it impacted everything. When I speak about local politics with friends, family, and acquaintances, they have no idea what I’m talking about. They vaguely know who their Mayor is or what he/she does or who their local elected officials were. They have no idea that in local elections they have the opportunity to vote in Judges, District Attorneys, and the Sheriff. This was alarming to me. Communities of color are affected the most by these elected
