    Chapter One

Payton Richards was in the bright beige kitchen, preparing ham and Havarti sandwiches for her and roommate Marisa. She looked up at Marisa through the doorway, watching her intently. Seeing Marisa slouched over the desk, peering at the internet, Payton sighed. She left the plate on the brown granite island, and shook her head.

It looks like Marisa’s holiday is beginning…on the internet, Payton said, as she exited the kitchen, the heels of her shoes sounding slightly on the shiny cork floor. Walking towards Marisa, who did not notice her presence, Payton crossed her arms. Marisa, have you found anymore yet about Beau Montague? Payton said, viewing the computer screen with curiosity. Marisa twisted her lips, and looked away from the monitor at Payton.

Nope, nothing. Seems as if he’s dropped off the face of the earth, Marisa said, chewing on her pen, as Payton examined her with care.

Well, maybe he wanted some anonymity or something, you know how things can be in the spotlight, from what I’ve heard, Payton said, as Marisa pulled the pen away from her mouth, and laughed.

Oh yes, you were a hot property for a while, burning up the screen with all your appearances, and in the gossip magazines, Marisa said, as Payton rolled her eyes.

Oh yeah - in my dreams, Payton said, puffing her lips. All I did was drama in high school, but that was it for me. My fame ended there.

Yeah, it’s not for everyone, Marisa said, as Payton nodded. Looks as if it wasn’t for Beau Montague either, or he wouldn’t have left acting to do whatever he is doing. Payton pulled up a padded striped chair next to Marisa, observing Beau’s image on the screen. You know what, I do, I really do, Marisa said, peering into Beau’s green eyes.

    What do you mean, Marisa?

Marisa sighed, pressing her lips together with determination.

I have the feeling he’s not dead, but is alive out there, somewhere.

Well for your sake, I hope he really is alive, or else I’d have a raging lunatic attacking me in our condo if I said otherwise, Payton said, rising from the chair, and winking at Marisa, who pulled a face at her, before Payton left to the kitchen. Marisa chuckled, and moved even closer to Beau’s images on the screen. In one of these he was wearing a black dinner suit for the red carpet premiere of his final film, Love’s Greatest Crimes, looking dapper and relaxed. Switching to another tab, Marisa saw a publicity shot taken for one of Beau’s most popular movies, Delectable Passions. Beau was all this, and more Marisa thought, posing on a pure white bed in a luxurious room, bare-chested, but contemplative. He definitely knew how to meld looks and cerebral sensuality in an irresistible package. Marisa licked her lips, and stared at this image intensely.

I know you’re out there somewhere Beau, I can sense it.

    Chapter Two

The next day, Marisa was parked in front of the television, watching the movie Heaven’s Heartache which starred Beau Montague. Beau played a farmer whose life was turned upside down when a tornado tore through his property, killing his wife and child. Marisa was watching the scene where he was praying, asking God why he had taken away his family, and Marisa’s eyes filled with
