    An intentional, extended passage in a musical composition during which no notes are played. Negative music, inducing a state of serenity or tension in the listener.

    Lacunae actively forces the listener to experience silence as part of the overall performance.

    The Vanished

    Her bare shoulder protruded from the faded saffron robe. Veronica was still conscious of her nudity beneath these simple robes. She was painfully aware. It still distracted her from her morning meditations with the monks. It didn’t really bother her. She knew it didn’t distract the monks either. Nearly 80 years old, she knew she was still attractive, but she was no longer a young woman.

    She never understood the discipline of morning meditation. She used the time to organize and plan her day... what little planning there was. Outside of her daily chores there was little else to do in this isolated and inaccessible Buddhist monastery or temple.
