    About the Author

    Introduction

Hello, my name is Joe Faith.  What would you want to give thanks for on Thanksgiving Day?  As Christians, we have a lot to be thankful for, starting with God's love towards us and Jesus' salvation grace.  Practically, everyday should be Thanksgiving Day, as the Lord commanded us through Apostle Paul in First Thessalonians 5:18, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (ESV).  As we all know, however, not everyday is a smooth day.  We get busy with work, family, or other responsibilities or endeavors; or we encounter unfavorable circumstances, such as illness, accidents, or conflicts with family or at work; or we feel that we are stuck in situations that we cannot escape without God performing miracles and so we feel lack of faith or hope, and we become vulnerable to be deceived about God's love on us.  Maybe He loves others more than us, or perhaps we don't feel worthy enough to be fully loved by Him, even though God loves everyone with the same highest love.  All these make it more difficult for us to give thanks, myself included.  But deep down, we know that God is causing all things to work together for those who love Him.  So we continue to strive on.  No one's life journey is perfect—mine is far from it.  So please join me in my journeys to give thanks so that you, too, will be thankful and rejoice in God.

    Thankful Joe

It was a cool and rainy October day as Joe cautiously climbed the wooden steps of the two-storey church building with a medium cup of McDonald's coffee in one hand and a half-eaten muffin in the other.

Good morning, Joe, a male voice greeted him.  Joe looked up to see who the person was.  It was one of the brothers in the same cell group as him.  McDonald's again?  I always see you holding a coffee on Sundays.

Joe smiled.  Yeah, I go there often, especially Sundays, out of convenience, he explained.  I need coffee to stay awake during the communion, you know.

The brother chuckled.  Good idea, he commented.  It'd be bad if the whole room hears you snore.

Joe and the brother walked inside the foyer and stood near the entrance of the large room where the morning worship took place.  The room was actually two classrooms with a foldable divider in between.  The building was a school long ago.

The brother pulled out a card from his wallet and handed it to Joe.  Here, he said.  Take mine.  I'm sure you have greater use for it than I do.  I have one only because I take my kids to McDonald's, but I don't collect the stickers myself.

Thanks, bro, Joe said and slid the sticker card into his wallet.  Just in time to fill out a new card.

Joe had been collecting stickers from all the McDonald's coffee he consumed weekly, sometimes multiple times a week.  Joe would redeem for a specialty drink, such as a mocha or a cappuccino, upon completing a card with seven stickers.

The brother headed inside the large room.  The meeting wouldn't begin until ten-thirty, but many seats were filled up with fifteen minutes to spare.  Joe often sat near the back row, sometimes next to the brother who gave him the card.  Before the brother found a seat, he turned around at Joe.  Happy Thanksgiving, by the way.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! Joe replied with a lower voice.  Most of the people in the room were either reading the Bible or silently enjoying the Lord's love with their heads lifted up.  Joe knew better not to cause an unnecessary scene or startle others.  He quickly finished his muffin and quietly walked into the room.  He found a seat near the brother who greeted him.

Rows of white fabric padded folding chairs surrounded three sides of a rectangular table covered with a cloth.  On top of it was a large round bread on a glass plate and a jug filled with grape fruit juice.  The table was set near the windows.  As Joe sipped his coffee in his chair, the rest of the congregation gradually filled the seats.

Joe pulled out his song books from his book bag and settled them on his lap.  As an elder brother near the center table stood up, Joe settled his half-finished coffee underneath his chair.  The elder brother chose a song to begin
