Chapter 1: Get to Know your Skin Type
We are all different and unique and so as our skin type. Knowing your skin type is an absolute necessary to make the right decision about the right skin care product or treatment that is suitable for your individual requirements. The initial type or quality of skin is actually determined genetically, which means that you’re born with it.
However, the beauty and the health of your skin later in your life hugely depend on the way you take care of yourself and the foods you eat. If you want to always look great and to put on together the best skincare routines, the first necessary step that you have to take is to determine the type of your skin. With this, you can now match it with the right strategies and methods to improve your appearance and slow the process of aging.
Before you start with any skincare routine, you have first to get to know your skin type. Any skincare product you choose should base on your skin type. If the product is not right for your specific skin type, it could aggravate the existing conditions or cause new ones.
Determining your Skin Type
In general, we have 5 basic skin types namely: normal, oily, dry, combination and sensitive, each of which has unique characteristics and requires a specific treatment and/or care.
In order for you to determine the type of skin you have, use a simple test with the use of a clean facial tissue to wipe your face in the morning, when you’ve just woken up.
The Normal Skin
If you have a normal type of skin, the facial tissue will not reveal traces of oil. Your skin should feel supple, elastic and vibrant. It looks smooth and clean and has a healthy complexion as well as a good circulation. Even with just a minimum care, it will look good great into your advanced age.
The Oily Skin
This skin type is very problematic. It often looks shiny, coarse, has enlarge pores and it tends to break into acne. But the great thing about this skin type is that it is not prone much to wrinkling and aging. To help improve the quality of oily skin, you must carefully clean your skin, minimize your carbohydrate consumption and avoid the use of rich creams.
The Dry Skin
The facial tissue will be clean as well, but your face skin will feel tight, flaky and dry after wiping it. If you have a dry skin, it can easily develop fine pores, wrinkles and a sallow tone, and it’s very prone to irritating and aging. You must always keep it healthy by applying thorough care and using regular beauty or skin care treatment with moisturizers and natural masks.
The Combination Skin
Combination skin has patches of both oily and dry skin. It also requires various types of care in relation to certain facial areas. The dry areas, which are often located around the eyes and on the checks, should be treated with the use of moisturizers and rich creams, while the oily areas, often on the nose and forehead, with benefit from thorough, frequent cleaning.
The Sensitive Skin
Sensitive skin tends to feel tight, becomes irritated and inflamed easily and is often very dry. Typically, this skin type develops scaly and reddish areas, can be tingly and itchy and is very prone to breaking into spots. Sensitive skin is the most fragile and problematic skin type that requires a special type of care.
