About this ebook

The Great Commission of Jesus is to “make disciples of all the nations” (Matt.28: 19 -- NKJV, NASB, and ASV). Jesus instructed His disciples to teach people then to baptize them. He also instructed them to continue to teach the baptized disciples -- “teaching them to observe all [obey everything -- NIV] ... I ... commanded you” (Matt.28:20 -- KJV, NKJV, NASB and ASV). A disciple of Christ follows Him in baptism but matures in discipleship after baptism. A mature Christian dispels darkness in the world by shining the light of the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ. Jesus told His disciples,

You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matt 5:14-16, NIV

But how does a person become a Christian? And how can Christians become like Christ? Lites Ministry, a Curriculum for the School of Evangelism, was designed to help Christians become mature disciples. Mature Christians grow the church in baptisms and the quality of life of believers. Lites embraces a global vision that promotes extensive, continuous, sustainable church growth. Its mission is to make Christian masses lites.

Courses in the three-volumes curriculum provide answers to the above-raised questions and more. These volumes provide a philosophy and curriculum for the Lites School of Evangelism and introduce its twelve foundational courses, progressively, over its twelve chapters.

L.I.T.E.S. is also an acronym that tells what the school does.

L.I.T.E.S.:

• Leads to conversion

• Inspires to witness

• Trains to disciple

Evangelizes to grow, and

Serves to love.

Lites Ministry begins in Haiti in 2017

Thirty-six students completed the first course of Lites Ministry taught in an international setting. The course Preaching Made Simple was presented on the compound of Feed My Lambs Ministry, in Haiti, in March 2017; the site of the first global center of the Lites School of Evangelism. Certificates of completion were given at a ceremony held at the Sychar Seventh-day Adventist Church, Mont-Rouis, on April 01, 2017. The North-West Haiti Mission of Seventh-day Adventists, in collaboration with Feed My Lambs Ministry, Haiti, welcomed Lites Ministry to disciple laypersons to engage evangelistic ministry in its territory.

    Dear Dr. Gibbons,

    Greetings in Jesus name!

Thank you for your proposal dated December 2016, to establish a center of the Lites School of Evangelism on the compound of Feed My Lambs Ministry, in Haiti. Your offer to provide evangelistic training at our Ministry was an answer to my prayers, to establish a school of evangelism here in 2017.

God blessed our Ministry to date to permit us to operate an orphanage, a K-13 school program, a health center and more recently, a dental clinic. We are committed to holistic evangelism and designated one of our rooms as a training center for the school of evangelism. We are confident that you will deliver the twelve-course curriculum of Lites Ministry, to our satisfaction, over the course of 2017 and 2018….

We trust that the Bermuda Conference will authorize your travel to Haiti, to advance the mission of Feed My Lambs Ministry, in collaboration with Pastor Yvon Aristil, pastor of the Sychar De Montrouis Seventh-day Adventist Church, serving the local district of seven churches with 600 members. Feed My Lambs Ministry employs many members from this district of churches. Some of these members would be among those recruited for the evangelism training. Pastor Yvon Aristil will recruit local church elders, deacons and youth as trainees; twenty in total. We are Seventh-day Adventists who support the message and mission of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

    Sincerely,

Phillip Rego, Director, Feed My Lambs Ministry

A work of the magnitude of this series could not be possible without divine help and human assistance.

The outline for the curriculum was created while teaching in the Department of Religion and Theology at Northern Caribbean University. The academic environment motivated reflection on training not limited to pastors and inclusive of all Christians. The affirmation of teaching by staff and students encouraged the development of the curriculum to train Christians in the art of discipleship.

The administrators of the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists and of the Bermuda Institute of Seventh-day Adventists authorized the piloting of courses developed for the curriculum, within their facilities. The Rockaway Seventh-day Adventist Church members comprised a class for the first program of training, based on the original curriculum. Members from other churches in the conference joined them for weekly training. The conference later adopted the curriculum as a conference program. The commitment of classes of students who gave their valued feedback helped to shape the final format and content of the program.

Special thanks are given to Ms. Joi Tyrrell who proofread and edited the final draft of the manuscript.

This three-volume product is dedicated to the glory of God who showered His love upon humanity when He sent Jesus to purchase our salvation. The gospel of good news is that Jesus’s blood was shed once and once was enough to forgive all humans for all our sins of all times. And His resurrection provides us the opportunity to experience new life in Him. Believers who permit Jesus to live in them, through the person of the Holy Spirit, will light the world and dispel the darkness as they live and teach the gospel.

May every reader lite the world with Christ’s righteousness and dispel the darkness of evil! Let God receive glory through you as you shine for Him!

Lites Ministry is a God-sized vision designed to train Christians to light the world with the Gospel. Its comprehensive and balanced curriculum will mature Christians as evangelists. The core of its curriculum is also taught in the W.A.V.E.S. School of Evangelism, for the Bermuda Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. The three-volume Lites Ministry series will be used as the primary textbooks for the W.A.V.E.S. program.

I teach in the W.A.V.E.S. program, along with other pastors and leaders of the Bermuda Conference. The program is an integral part of church culture for the conference, to disciple members to give their best service for Jesus. It helps us accomplish our evangelistic mission through equipping believers to do the work of an evangelist. I recommend that all Christians who embrace the great commission of Jesus (Matt 28:19,20) pursue the international training opportunities offered through Lites Ministry. This three-volume series will help you light the world with the gospel of salvation. Christians who pursue this training will find deeper meaning in the Christian life through their personal path in ministry. Pastors who read this series will add to their professional development. In addition, they will discover fresh and substantive content in this new resource, to train believers to become caring, soul-winning evangelists who follow Jesus’s method to reach and bless people with His life.
