    FAMILY AFFAIRS

This is the story of my family. Before i tell my story let me introduce you to my family first. My name is Deepak or rather was Deepak. I am 22 years old. I completed my degree and had joined my family business which is clothes showroom. We have a chain of huge clothes showrooms all over south india. Ours is a joint family. It consists of my father, mother, younger sister, my father’s sister who is married to my mother’s brother, their son and daughter and finally my aunt who is also my father youngest sister. We are a close knitted and traditional family were the men used to go to work while the women stayed at home and look after the house and children except for my youngest aunt who is a journalist. We lived in a huge mansion until our business failed and had to shift to a smaller residential colony in the outskirts of Bangalore.

Now that I have given you a brief overview of my family, before we go further let me explain each character a bit more briefly.

Srinivas – My father. He is 44 years old. A typical male chauvinist. He does not approve of his younger sister working. He along with my uncle and myself managed the business. Due to a few carless risks taken by him we incurred huge losses in our business and that gradually changed our lives.

Sangeetha – My mother. 42 years old. A typical housewife. Interested in daily soaps. Kitchen was her world until she was forced to captain the ship. Good at personal relationships. Carries an very intelligent head on her shoulders. The current house we live in is under her name.

Bhaskar – My maternal uncle. 42 years old He is married to my father’s sister. We all live together under one roof. He is similar to my father in his views.

Radha – My paternal aunt. 40 years old. She completed her degree and wanted to do help out in our business but was shunned away. But things are never the same.

Vaishali – My youngest aunt. 35 years old. She is unmarried. Lives life to the fullest. She is a knows all done all character. A hardcore feminist. She was the catalyst in the metamorphism that took place in our family. She used to always to treated as a kid by my father due to the huge age difference.

Sakshi – My Bhaskar mama’s daughter. Since our familes our inter-married and the genes are the same Myself and Sakshi are splitting images of each other. We were even born on the same day same year. She also completed her degree but was not allowed to join the business by my father. I and sakshi share a very good bond.

Saranya – My younger sister. 20 years old She is the absolute opposite of Ramesh. She is in her final years of college.

Vikram – Saksi’s brother. 18 years old. The spoilt brat of the family. Zero in discipline, zero in studies and basically a zero in everything.

I can proudly say that i am the only male in the family who is not a jerk. Now that you all know about all of us let me get into how our family evolved and new relationships emerged.

    **********************************

When I was young my father and uncle used to travel to various places a lot due to their business. That meant i spent more time with my dad and aunts. I had always been a good kid since childhood and everyone adored me as i was the first male child in the family. Vaishali aunty somehow detested this kind of attitude of my parents. She used to scold my mom and say even Sakshi is also a precious child. Seeing there was no change in them she started taking matters into her hands.

Since Sakshi and myself looked like twins of different genders she used to crossdress us both for fun. We were around 8 years at that time. She used to put me in a frock and sakshi in a my clothes. At that time we both had similar kind of hairstyle. Hence no one used to even notice the change and we enjoyed fooling the others. Vaishali was very good at rangoli. During festivals she used to draw different kinds of rangoli. When sakshi and myself used to look at it eagerly she used to not teach her. She would send her off to do some other work and teach me. within a year i was a master in rangoli while Sakshi was a learning karate. My mom did not mind me learning rangoli as it did not seem harmful. My dad was as usual ignorant about all these developments. While putting rangoli aunty used to brainwash me saying my mother was working so hard. As a man
