About this series

A short - (barely 2000 words so don't look for Gone with the Wind!) Johnny is a young man burning with ambition to perform on stage. He's sure the Regent Theatre is the place where his dreams will be realised, so he auditions for the lead in Romeo and Juliet and receives help from an unexpected source.

When manager Jessica Jones battles to save the old Regent Theatre from developers, a dead actor in the auditorium is the last thing she needs. Then the police officer heading the investigation starts to take a very personal interest in her. Will the show go on?

Join your favourite characters from Murder in the Second Row back in the Regent Theatre with this second story in the Theatre Mystery series. Jessica and Gazza are on hand to guide newcomer Dennis Dempster around the theatre, but he’s in even more foreign territory when he gets to the gym. Lucky he has Cathy, the gym owner, on hand to look after him. If you're inspired by Dennis' transformation, there are weight loss tips by a professional nutritionist to help you complete your own twelve week challenge to become fit and fabulous. Actor John Nettles of Midsomer Murders writes "Wonderfully invigorating read. Raunchy, funny and lovable characters in a great story. If its ever made into a film I want to be in it!"

This brief humorous story is to give a flavour of the Theatre Mystery series so you can see if you'd enjoy the books Murder in the Second Row and Body on the Stage. Gazza features in both these and is a character who really took over as soon as I started writing him. There really was a theatre director who attempted to ban swearing during a production, and the result was much the same as in this story.

Author

Bev Robitai

Bev Robitai currently works as a writer, book coach, and freelance photographer in Auckland, New Zealand. She writes mostly light crime fiction, sometimes based in the theatre and sometimes straying into post-apocalyptic sci-fi. Her novel Murder in the Second Row was launched in June 2010 in a historic theatre that was also used as the setting for Body on the Stage. A decade of backstage experience gave her the raw material for both books and a third is under way. A stand-alone novel Eye for an Eye is the tale of a quest for justice, inspired by the actions of a real-life conman whose trail of victims made the author angry enough to imagine retribution - in some very inventive ways... The Sunstrike novels are set in a post-apocalyptic present day world when a major solar storm has wiped out all electrical technology. They are optimistic survival adventures following normal people learning and adapting to difficult new circumstances.
