As a writer, I like to keep things light. My travel books (always G-rated) are fun and informative. I like to think that I present my area of interest from a different point of view. My fiction can be intense at times, with colorful characters in interesting situations. And I'm not kidding when I say they're R-rated. They are for mature adult readers ONLY. Women and men can enjoy them equally. My career background is in business management, sales, sales management, business development strategies, and corporate soft skills training. I was also what you could call a professional change instigator. (aka, shit disturber with a purpose.) I must admit, to say I'm retired is somewhat of a lie. I'm as busy now as ever with things I enjoy a helluva lot more than wearing ties and making sure my wingtips are polished, not to mention putting up with other people's shit. My wife, Lisa, and I have been full-time, active, cruising boaters for six years. We've been all over the Eastern Seaboard, Chesapeake Bay, the Great Lakes, the Western Rivers, The Gulf of Mexico, and the Florida Keys. It's a great life. We're very fortunate. Chapter 1 Personal Negotiations

Carol and Doug were a hot social commodity. Their story of how they met and fell in love, and the challenges they had to face, swept through Charleston's social scene. Curiosity about the couple couldn't be higher. That was particularly so about Carol. Who was that mysterious woman from Annapolis? After all, Doug Palmer was one of Charleston's most eligible bachelors and corporate power brokers. What did she have to win him that all the other socialites in Charleston didn't have?

It was no surprise that they received a dozen or so New Year party invitations, most of which were from people they didn't even know. Their presence at any one of the lavish soirees would have been a social coup for the host. While appreciative of the invitations, Carol and Doug knew that their presence would have been a sideshow. That wasn't their style.

Their New Years celebration was a private affair the entire weekend, a date at home. They drank to the point of being tipsy and got a little buzzed with a joint that Carol got from Christie, her girlfriend. They also did what they liked to do most; they ravaged each other with raw, unrestrained, no-holds-barred lovemaking. They enjoyed each other immensely, as always.

Before dawn on Tuesday, Carol dragged herself out of bed first and got in the shower. It was a masculine thing, with dark-grained, heavy marble that looked like ancient lumber. And it was solid and sturdy, far better than some typical fiberglass or plastic construction. It was also large, the size of two bathtub footprints, with a full ceiling shower that covered the entire inside of the enclosure. Taking a shower felt more like bathing in a warm rain than being blasted by a typical nozzle.

    It was perfect for sex.

Carol liked to be surrounded by the steam and found it to be therapeutic. Her skin opened up and took in the warm moisture. She breathed deeply and opened up her body to its refreshing heat. It also relaxed her and put her in a more amorous mood.

    The lights went out.

The sliding doors opened, then shut, and she felt Doug's hands reach around her waist from behind. She purred, Perfect. This is perfect. But when she tried to turn around toward him, his hands clinched at her waist and held her in front of him as she was.

Stay right where you are, Mrs. Palmer. Do exactly what I say.

Yes, sir. Do I get to improvise at all?

Shhh. I've got this, he said while one of his hands swiped up and cupped her breast."

She gladly submitted to his advance. Oh, you do. You definitely do.

His strong hands ran all over her naked body, and each stroke made her melt with erotic bliss. He then reached onto the thigh-high shelf and grabbed a body of silky, liquid, body wash. He handed it to Carol. He then raised his arms up and cupped his hands in front of her. Will you do the honors? he asked.

Carol lifted the bottle above his hands and squeezed out a generous portion of lotion. Doug wrung his hands together. Carol dropped the bottle and raised her arms out of his way.

The anticipation she felt was palpable. Darling, you're going to make me crazy, aren't you?

    That's the idea.

Doug's first soapy application was on her stomach, then her sides, then her back, and then her glorious ass. His fingers gingerly played along her bottom just enough to make her have her first orgasm. He then knelt down behind her and soaped her legs, from her toes to the insides of her thighs, her most sensitive spot. He then rinsed his hands and massaged her womanhood. A second twinge hit her, and she begged for more.

Oh, sweetheart, you do make me crazy. That is so good. She then begged him. Please, honey, do me. Do me now … hard.

Doug stood up and bent her over in the shower. Her arms reached out instinctively and found the end wall of the stall. Her hands were planted firmly on the marble to steady her body while Doug aimed himself into her. He grabbed onto her waist and pushed into her as hard as he could. Carol couldn't control herself. She pushed back against him almost violently.

His first strokes were slow but deep and strong. Each one caused Carol to moan. And as he picked up his speed, those small moans became one long, continuous groan of ecstasy. Doug gave Carol everything he had, and she excitedly took it all in.

Doug pulled out, spun Carol around, lifted her legs around his waist, and did her against the wall of the shower. He had her pinned hard, and she liked it that way. She scratched at his back and pulled his hair. Doug thrashed away at her until she felt the unmistakable explosion of him finishing in her. And it wasn't just the one blast; there were several aftershocks as well.

Doug pulled Carol away from the wall and stood in the middle of the shower with her still hooked on him. With the hot water raining on them, Carol climbed down. She kissed Doug's chest and, even with the water drenching him, tasted the saltiness of his sweat on her lips.

Oh, my love, my wonderful lover, you amaze me, she said while she kissed his lips. I love it when you take me like that. I don't care what else happens, I'm always ready for you. Time stopped for them as they caressed and fondled each other. She then moaned, You drive me crazy.

They were more than husband and wife. They were mates, two souls together as one, perfectly matched to the other. And their feelings intensified every day.

Their shower area opened up to their double sinks and vanities. Doug, evicted from the shower so Carol could wash her hair, stood naked at his sink and brushed on his Italian shaving lather. Carol had gotten out of the shower and walked up behind him. She pretended she needed to reach around him to get something off of the vanity.

Excuse me. Pardon me. She ducked around him side to side and clumsily groped him. Pardon me. Excuse me. I'm so sorry, sweetheart. I don't mean to get into your way. Like I said, excuse me.

Doug grabbed her arm, spun her around, and wedged her between him and the counter. He loved to flirt with her. Well, if you're going to get in the way so much, I'm going to have to put you to work. He handed his double razor to her. Can you do this without slitting my throat?

Absolutely. Besides, I want you as you are: perfect in every way. She inhaled the scent of the shaving soap. Mmmm. Sandalwood. I love you in sandalwood. She then rinsed the razor with water and started at his sideburn by his right ear. The sharp, platinum blade easily cut through his two-day stubble.

After several strokes, she asked, How am I doing so far?

Any blood? he asked back as a joke.

Carol laughed. Nope. So far, so good. But I meant something else. I meant about being your wife. How am I doing so far?

Doug moved her hand with the razor in it away from his face. You're doing wonderful. You are everything I ever dreamed of. I can't help myself, but I still shake my head sometimes and wonder how I could be so lucky. Honestly, I'm so in love with you.

Sweetheart, I feel the same way, she said. Everyday I have to pinch myself. I still can't believe it. And the way everything happened. I am so happy with how things are … especially everything about you.

Can we talk shop for a minute? he asked.

Carol resumed her shaving duties. I'd rather talk about something like—oh, I don't know—how we make love together so wonderfully. But, sure, if you want to be a party-pooper, go ahead and talk about work.

Doug said, It's been a crazy six months at Flashworld. Sales are good, profits are up, and things are going well. What I want to say most is that I'm proud of you. I always had confidence in you about the business, but you've blown me away with how great you're doing. The staff loves you....

    You too, sweetheart, she interrupted.

He continued. The office is running like a fine-tuned machine. All of our customer satisfaction metrics are through the roof. Online reviews are good: over four stars.

4.65 to be exact, dear. Flashworld is the highest rated program and app in the C.R.M. category.

Exactly. You have done so well. Like I said, I'm proud of you.

Without missing a shaving motion, she said, Thank you, dear. That means a lot to me. And I feel the same way about you too. You're so confident and focused, and, if I must say so, you haven't let yourself get too wound up either. That's very good.

Well, you've had something to do about that, he said.

Personal negotiations: the perfect antidote for all kinds of stress at work. We just go in our office, close the mini-blinds, and negotiate to our hearts content.

He asked, You don't think we're being too overt, do you?

Honey, I really don't care, she said. I love you all the time, and I'm not going to pretend I don't. I know everyone thinks we're a little out there, but I don't care. You are more important.

Good. I feel the same way. Besides, we have our little gatekeeper to protect us.

Monica? Carol asked. I think we still blow her mind a little. But she's sweet, and she does cover for us. Do you like her as our assistant?

Very much. She's efficient, competent, and she works hard. She is still a bit hemmed in personally. For such a sweet girl, she could still use a boost in her life.

Carol said, I know. I keep working with her. There's so much potential there. I just haven't figured out how to pull it out of her yet. Maybe our little surprise for her will do it.

She smoothly pulled the sharp razor down through the last bit of lather on his face, on his left cheek. And I'll also tell you this: I think what we have planned today is going to be a major eye-opener for everyone. She took a towel and wiped the shave's residue from his face. She snuggled closer to him, buried her face onto his cheek and inhaled deeply. Mmmm. Sandalwood. I love you in sandalwood.

Early that morning, as usual, Doug and Carol were the first to get to the office. Monica, as usual, was the next to arrive. She was devoted to Carol, Doug, and the company. They treated her wonderfully, with respect and confidence, and she tried to emulate them, especially Carol. Therefore, since they were always the first there, Monica was always, at least, second. And on those mornings when her bosses didn't beat her there, like when they were out of town or had an early appointment, Monica opened the business. She felt it was her duty to unlock the doors, turn on the lights, make the coffee, and get the tech company up and running for everyone else.

When she turned the corner to her desk, she interrupted her two bosses in a loving embrace while they kissed each other.

Oh, sorry guys, she said while she averted her eyes away from them. Monica wasn’t necessarily embarrassed by Carol and Doug’s behavior anymore. She was used to it by then. In fact, she thought that it was kind of cool that they loved each other so much and weren’t afraid to show it. But it did always surprise her none the less.

That’s okay, Monica. Carol smoothed the front of her dress and brushed her hair back. So, how was your New Years?

It was okay. Nothing great, Monica said. I stayed at home and watched some TV, and played some online games.

Carol asked, You didn't have a date?

No. I don't date much. Actually, I don’t date at all.

    You don’t have a boyfriend?

No. I did for a few months, a couple of years ago. I don't seem to register with too many guys. That was her pat answer to that kind of question, but it was a good way to describe her. Monica was a bright, nice young woman, but not one who charged up the hormones in men. She was cute but she didn’t turn heads. She was average height and had a nice figure, but that was hard to tell because fashion was not something she was into much. She kind of hid in her clothes. She had pretty eyes, but they were hidden behind a pair of small-framed, black glasses. And her head of body-less, long, red hair was always in a scrunchied ponytail.

Carol tried to encourage her and said, Monica, you know how we feel about you. We think you’re great. She then said, rather condescendingly, However, I have to say that, obviously, the male gender is blind as a bat, not to mention downright stupid….

Doug interrupted, Whoa, hey there. Not all of us are like that.

Present company excepted, dear. But they're stupid if they can’t see how cute you are, and what a terrific young lady you are.

I’d like a boyfriend. I’d like to be in a relationship, but it just never seems to work out.

Well, I would think that you'll win some great guy soon. Carol, the mentor, always looked for opportunities to encourage her young protégé.

Doug said, Don’t let it get you down. You have every right to be confident that some guy would be lucky to be with you.

Thanks, you guys. You're really sweet, and I hope you're right. She was sincere in her thanks to them. But I'm concentrating on being a productive member of the team here. I hope you know that I really do like the two of you, and I'll do anything for you. Carol saw that Monica, insecure about herself as a young woman, was a little choked up. I’m proud that you put so much trust in me. This is the best job I’ve ever had.

And you’re doing an awesome job, Doug said. The company depends on you a lot, and you’re important to Carol and I. And you’ve bought into the vision that we have for Flashworld.

I have! exclaimed Monica. I don’t know exactly what it is, but you guys are so cool to work for. You're empathetic and empowering. It’s a great way to run a business, and I know everyone else here feels the same way I do.

Carol gave her a hug. Oh, Monica. We think you're special too. Carol spoke softly to Monica, just between the two of them. Look, as far as dating and men and relationships go, it wasn't too long ago that I felt the same way. I was scared too. I understand that. It will all be okay. Someday, some guy will be smart enough and observant enough to see what a wonderful young lady you are. Over the months that Monica and Carol worked together, Carol told Monica some of her and Doug's story. It inspired Monica, and it gave her hope that she too would meet someone special, fall in love, and have the same kind of relationship that Carol and Doug had.

Monica said, I don’t want to sound all mushy, but that means a lot to me since everything worked out so well for you. Maybe it will work out that way for me too.

Carol sent an email blast to everyone who worked at Flashworld.

    Subject: Great News for Flashworld!

Time flies when you're having fun.

When we came on board as the new owners of Flashworld six months ago, we asked you to be patient with us and accept on faith that if we all shared the same vision, special things would happen. We promised you that by working together as a team, we could all create an atmosphere that was empowering, a workplace that was fun and comfortable, and, of course, we could all make more money!

Your dedication and performance has paid off. Sales are up over last year, especially in the third and fourth quarters. Profits, too, improved to record levels. All of the pertinent metrics that measure our success are all positive. So too is the atmosphere in this office. Flashworld is a good place to work.

Bottom line is that you all have performed brilliantly. We're proud of you all.

So, how do we reward you?

That is a secret to be revealed at a special company-wide meeting today at 3:00.

Oh, one more thing: We also have some news about an opportunity for Flashworld that is very exciting. And what is that?

    Here's a poetic clue:

"Oh, heavenly star, guide us safely down your neon path,

and protect us in your miles of aisles."

See you at 3:00. Have all your cycles finished. We'll need the full two hours before everyone heads for home.

    Carol and Doug

As soon as Gina Elliott and Amy Davison read the message blast, they swarmed around the office and found Monica in the break room.

Gina said, Monica! So, what's with the meeting? What is the deal? It's good news, isn't it?

I don't know for sure. They've been pretty secretive about it. They usually tell me this stuff, but not today.

You don't know anything? asked Amy. I'm, like, not buying that you're completely in the dark.

Really, you guys. They kept me out of the loop.

Gina protested. Bullshit, Monica. You're their assistant. You know everything. You even know when they're in personal negotiations.

Please, let's not go there, Monica said.

Amy said, And, may I say, I am totally down with that. I mean, we've gotten used to them making out and getting so lovey-dovey in the office. But only you know when they're in personal negotiations. Only you know when their office doors are closed because Doug is dropping one of his Palmer Stealth Screw Bombs on Carol. She clicked her fingers in the air. Yeah, baby; they are so hot!

Gina said, And it's not like it's a rare thing to have happen either. At least once a week. Remember when Doug came back from that road trip in September? He scored everywhere—came back into the office with a fist full of new corporate custom jobs. Holy crap. Carol almost stripped before they got into his office.

Amy said, And don't forget when we won that NASPA customer service award. The two of them vanished damn-near in front of our eyes. One moment Carol and Doug are congratulating us for winning the award. The next second we hear her office door shut and they're going cocoa bananas on each other and crushing it. Insane!

I know. They're off the hook big-time. But how do they do it so quietly?

I don't know, but if my man had the hots for me, like, every other minute of the day like Doug has for Carol, Amy said, and we couldn't help ourselves, even at our office, I'd sure as hell figure it out.

Guys, you know I don't like to talk about Carol and Doug like that. I feel like I'm betraying them. How they want to conduct themselves at their own place of business is their business.

"Monica, we all know how you feel about them. We feel the same way. But you have to
