About this ebook
Have you ever wondered how people that write comedy, or humor blogs or funny books come up with their material?
Lots of writers will try to tell you that their work is the product of divine inspiration or some complicated, arcane ritual, but the truth is that consistently writing anything is the result of having a solid, repeatable process. That's doubly true for humor writing, because most of the pros need to be funny on a schedule. They have to produce good stuff day after day, or week after week. You can't hope for a muse and make the rent, right?
This process shouldn't be a secret, and it's not complicated.
Humour Writing: The Art of Being Funny is a complete, six-week course that will teach you how to add zing to your writing. Get dozens of useful humor writing tips, techniques and methods; it is great for beginners and pros alike. You'll find it helpful whether you want to write a syndicated column, funny one-liners for t-shirts or greeting cards, or to just add levity to your fiction and nonfiction. Heck, even if you're not interested in writing humour, you can use the book to learn how to generate ideas.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This book provides a general overview of the writing process from concept to sending it out to publishers. The last part would be better served by additional research and legwork, but is perhaps a good place to find out what kinds of things you might need to learn. Each chapter in the book has some basic theory and explanation and ends with two or three exercises. Many of the concepts are explained just as well or with better examples and detail in many other magazine articles and books, but this book provides a clear organization and structure for putting it all together and the author injects a little of her own unique perspectives and tastes. Design process and ideation are areas of expertise (though for physical things, not writing) so I distilled this book into a 13 step process with checklists and reference lists. Essentially, become an observer, collect ideas event and experiences that create emotional responses, define the why/point/insight/experience you want to share, explore silly takes and humor devices applied to these, choose a format, draft, edit, draft, edit, share, edit, repeat until you decide you are done, then do something with it or nothing.
