About this ebook
We ALL have egos. And they are holding us back.
Ego is the enemy of growth.
Ego is the enemy of mastery.
Ego is the enemy of getting what you want and of keeping what you have.
Ego is the enemy of relationships.
Ego is the enemy of loyalty and support.
Ego is the enemy of repeating and growing your success.
Ego is different than confidence. Instead of helping us grow, it pushes us down. It repulses relationships, advantages, and opportunities. And, like a bee to honey, it attracts errors, mistakes, pitfalls, embarrassment, and enemies. It tries to persuade us that we are more important, needed, or successful than others. And then we start to lose balance, get entitled, lose grip with reality, and damage our relationships with our work and with other people.
The ability to evaluate one’s own ability is the most important skill of all. Without it, improvement is impossible.
Getting the ego back into the proper equilibrium is perhaps the most important thing we can do to fix the various imbalances in our lives.

Part I: What Do You Mean, Ego
?
YOU HAVE WORKED HARD your entire life, you have made important decisions thoughtfully and carefully, and now, finally, you can say you are successful. Maybe you’ve landed your dream job or finally reached the salary that once seemed unattainable or convinced the perfect partner to commit to you or started a profitable business. Maybe you’re an athlete at the top of your game. Maybe you’re an artist or musician who has just received an important accolade. Maybe you’re a researcher who landed a generous grant. These are all great things, and all things that deserve a lot of credit.
But, as Aristotle observed, it is hard to bear the results of good fortune suitably.
After we give ourselves the credit we deserve, our egos urge us to take it a step further. We can barely resist telling ourselves, I’m better than everyone else. I’m special. I’m different. I have the golden ticket.
We start to feel like certain rules don’t apply to us. We become entitled, selfish, bossy, maybe even delusional.
And then the worst thing happens. Our egos distort our thinking so much that we self-destruct those very traits that made us successful in the first place. And because, the higher we rise, the more difficult it becomes to continue to succeed, we start to fall down. Our egos literally cripple us, holding us back from continued winning.
You may be thinking, that’s not me. I would never let my ego hold me back. I’m as humble as they come.
That, believe it or not,
