    Charlotte Collins (née Lucas) is invited to spend a few days at Pemberley with her old friend Elizabeth Darcy (née Bennet). However, Lady Catherine de Bourgh and her entourage are visiting the estate at the same time; in order to avoid the noble lady, Charlotte is lodged in a small building by the lake. There she can do her sketching. When she sees Mr Darcy and his gentleman friend rowing on the lake, a chain of extraordinary events begin which take Charlotte out of the lifestyle to which she has become accustomed.
