Excerpt:

Introduction

Many years ago upon my first visit to the mission field in Uganda, I realized I had to keep my message simple so there would be no cultural misunderstandings of the truths that had changed my life. I looked for common everyday things that I could relate the Gospel to, and share with all who would listen. I found many who wanted to know, but were afraid to ask. So I kept that in mind as I started writing and sharing devotions.

I am so blessed each time I read Apostle Paul’s statement:

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtlety, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. – II Corinthians 11:3

In other words, we are to keep it simple. I’ve seen more respond when they could relate what I was teaching through the devotions at that time.

I pray you will be blessed by these simple applications from many life experiences that happened to me growing up as a child. So if it encourages you and helps you stay close to God then it has been worth the effort, and I praise God for the opportunity to share them with you. These are some of my Favorite Ones that we have done over the years and had requests for so I pray you will be blessed.

What’s In Your Pockets?

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us. - Hebrews 12:12

It amazes me sometimes the lessons I learn from everyday life. The other day, I went into the bedroom and saw a pair of my son's pants on the floor. I picked them up to put them away and when I did, there was a large number of things that fell out of His pockets. Candy, gum, lollipops and other types of sweets. But what really amazed me was all the empty wrappers, and sucker sticks that were in there with all the good stuff. I thought why didn't he take time to throw the trash away? I mean, there was so much of it that it would hinder him finding the good stuff because of all the old wrappers in His way.

You know, we would think that would be typical of a kid but then I understood that many times we do the same thing in the church world as well. We carry things around that represent our past far too long, emotional trash that gets in our way of finding the good things that God has for us.

Maybe that’s you? God has blessed you in many ways but yet there are some things that you’re carrying around from your past and without knowing it, they have weighed you down and hindered you from finding the good things that God has placed in your life! It’s time to get rid of the past as the Apostle Paul said forgetting those things that are behind and reaching for those things that are before, Life is too short to carry around yesterday’s garbage so why not find you a place to pray and empty your spiritual pockets and enjoy the blessings of God.
