This book is written to help us believe it! We read in Second Corinthians 1:20, "For all of God's promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding "Yes!" And through Christ, our "Amen" (which means "Yes") ascends to God for his glory." (New Living) For centuries religion has kept God's people from receiving the very best that God had already prepared. Before Jesus ascended to the Father, He made sure all His followers had to do is believe in Him and what He did. As Joshua led Israel over into the Promised Land, Jesus has led us into the Promised Life, but we must believe that we have arrived to enjoy the fruit. Join me as we venture deeper into the Promised Life, and lay claim to what is rightfully ours.

      INTRODUCTION

      This book was birthed out of a passion that I have developed to see more people enjoy life more. Life really is good, and every day we wake up should be celebrated. We all have different challenges and obstacles to overcome, but regardless of what each one of us may have to deal with, we should still be able to rejoice every day we wake up. I can guarantee that whatever you may be going through right now, there is someone going through something much worse. If we can be more grateful for where we are in life right now, I believe that we can then have the faith and encouragement to move forward into our God-given destinies and progress beyond the limitations of our current reality.

      As we have recently witnessed all around the world, there seems to be an increase in those more willing to take their own lives rather than live them. That is because we were all born in the image of God and destined to live a life of abundance, prosperity, and wholeness through an intimate relationship with God. The church is supposed to be the place where people can go to establish that relationship with God, and to hear messages that confirm in our hearts that there is a better life than the world offers. Jesus came to deliver that life to us. All we have to do is receive that life by faith.

      Unfortunately, the church has a tendency to make receiving that life more difficult than it really is because we have clouded the minds and hearts of God-seekers with religion. There is only one reason that we can attain the Promised Life that we will discuss and that is because of what Jesus Christ accomplished for us at the cross. It was His suffering, His blood, and His cross that guarantees that we can live beyond the limitations of this world and opens up the portals of heaven that we can receive our inheritance as children of God. We can live the Promised Life because it is now our birthright. We have done nothing to earn the goodness that God has promised His children, and the better news is that we can do nothing to lose anything. Everything has been freely bestowed upon us because we have a Heavenly Father that loves us and wants to show us how much. There is only one thing required from us: FAITH. Faith that was also given to us as a part of our precious salvation.

      This book was written to help. That faith will come as we get a better understanding of the Bible and receive the unaltered, simplistic message of Jesus Christ. We will see that the message is very clear though tainted by religion. God loves us and sent Jesus to lead us into the Promised Life just as Joshua led Israel into the Promised Land. Together we will both compare and contrast what Joshua of the Old Testament did for God’s chosen people of Israel, and what Jesus has already done for His chosen people, the church. We will see that there is a difference between the Old Testament and the New Testament, and it has nothing to do with how the two are divided in the Bible. We will also see that everything that is necessary for us to cross over into the Promised Life has already been accomplished. Jesus finished the work, now we just have to believe it! For those of us who are already followers of Jesus Christ, we will see clearly that we are already living in the Promised Life, but nobody ever told us. It is way overdue that we start enjoying it! One of the main reasons I believe that people will start flocking to the church again is because Believers are going to start believing that we have already arrived, and we will have the fruit to show it. I hope that this book will also inspire those that have held back from following Jesus because of the repulsiveness of religion. I hope they will see the true glory of the Lord through His grace and begin to follow Him as well.

      So join me as we journey together through the Promised Life. Like the children of Israel who were in bondage in Egypt before crossing into the Promised Land, this book and I are coming back to get you that you may be free from what has held you captive. If you are wandering in the wilderness, right next to the Promised Life, you are about to cross over. You were unsure of what was on the other side of the river, but now you will be confident that it is better than where you are right now. There is no need for you to be so close and not cross over into the best life you could ever imagine. Even if you stand with me and believe that you are already in the Promised Life, we still have some ground to cover. Joshua was told, every place that the sole of your foot will tread upon I have given you (Joshua 1:3; NKJV). There are still some places and things that you will acknowledge that you have not tread upon and possessed in this life that you know you must. There are also still a lot more giants that must be defeated and blessings that must be recovered by faith. So let’s go! Let’s do this! It’s time to move forward, in Jesus’ name!

      Chapter 1

      Crossing Over the Jordan

      The day that I sauntered up the aisle to accept the preacher’s offer to be in led in a prayer which I was told would make me a Christian is without a doubt one of the most memorable days of my entire life. I will go so far as to say it was the best day of my life because of the result. Then in my mid-twenties, I had reached a point in my life where something had to change. Losing my mother at the age of eleven had unwittingly sent me spiraling out of control from a child who consistently made honor roll in school, and received numerous citizenship awards, to a young man who had occasional brushes with the law, a serious problem with alcohol and drugs, and a hopeless view of life that is inevitable for those without a genuine relationship with their Creator.

      So on this day, I was ready for a change! I was tired. Even though I had all but given up on life, I knew that life could be better. Was there a chance that this Jesus Christ that I had only heard about could really lead me to that change I was looking for? Was what the preacher saying about God really true, that He loved me unconditionally, and that faith in Jesus would keep me from spending eternity in a place I really wouldn’t want to be? Was it true that following this Jesus would lead me in another direction from that in which I was going? I was curious and was now at the point where I really wanted to go the right way, but up until then, did not know how to actually make the U-turn.

      So I did it! I said the prayer that forever would change my life, and I actually believed what everyone said about the prayer; that I was saved, and now a child of God. Fast forward almost twenty years, and I would say that day I made the best decision of my life. I still have sin and temptations that I deal with daily, I still struggle with fears and failures, I still have flaws and imperfections that try to keep me from believing that God really wants what’s best for me, but I know that God has done a miraculous work within me. As the Bible says, Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, old things have passed away, and behold: all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17 NKJV). My external person has aged and looks a little different, but the most significant change has been internal, where it really matters the most; a changed heart and mind. In fact, I have come to understand that the person I used to be was buried the moment I accepted Christ’s offer of salvation though he fights to come alive daily. There is a new person that was re-created in Christ the moment I said that prayer. I was born again, and the new person in Christ is the one whom God is using to write this book.

      Immediately after my salvation experience, I had an unquenchable thirst for the Word of God. I began to love reading the Bible! I believe that my love for alcohol was replaced with a longing for the living waters that Jesus promised all Believers (John 4:14). And instead of being drunk with wine, I was now filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18). This way was a lot safer, cheaper, and didn’t result in a hangover. I began to spend hours upon hours reading my Bible which unexpectedly led me to become a minister of the Gospel. Not that I wanted to be a minister, or even considered it when I was younger, but there was a call on my life. A call that my enemy of my soul tried hard to prohibit me from answering. So for many years now, I have read the Bible, reading it from cover to cover, Genesis to Revelation, many times over. I even read different versions and translations. But eventually I came to a place where a lot of what I was reading started to get very confusing. There was a huge difference between the God that I was reading about in the Old Testament, and the One I was reading about in the New Testament. This Savior that I had declared my devotion to makes a lot of promises that I have yet to see fulfilled, and to be honest, I haven’t seen fulfilled in too many other Christians’ lives either. Was He serious when He said, And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover (Mark 16:15-18). If I believed that He saved me from eternal death, why shouldn’t I believe that everything else that He said was true as well?

      In John, Chapter 10, Jesus said, The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly (NKJV). The New Living Translation says, My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. My life has gotten a whole lot better since that day at the altar, and in my opinion, has resulted in a much better person, but was Jesus really meaning what He said, that He came so that I could live the abundant life; a rich and satisfying life? A life that was even better than the life I was and still am experiencing? Jesus was quoted as saying, Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to my Father (John 14:12). This life that the Bible seemed to describe was available to Believers began to seem more and more amazing. The promises Jesus Christ made were astounding, but were they true? Even though my life is enjoyable and fulfilling, something, or Someone,
