    Chapter 1

The plane ride back to the states had Ivy ruminating over her romantic future as well. For years she had been in love with two men, Braden and Connor. Two best friends that now ran a plantation turned horse farm in her hometown of Cashiers, North Carolina. They’d both been individually attracted to Ivy and paternally in love with each other for almost their entire lives. She wondered if it was possible to come together as one loving group.

Please return to your seats and prepare for landing, the captain’s voice shook Ivy from her memories. Downing the dregs of the airplane wine with a wince she handed off her plastic cup to the stewardess and settled back to go over her plan one last time. Come hell or high water she was going to convince those two southern boys that a threesome relationship was what they wanted and needed.

Connor Turner was driving a shitty truck, his muscular forearm resting on the window and his voice belting out a country song. Braden Frost was sitting in the passenger seat smiling in utter joy. Both men could barely contain themselves. Connor turned a smile on Braden and gave him a punch to the upper arm.

Today’s the day man. The day Ivy comes back to us, Connor said, his eyes returning to the road.

Yup, Braden agreed succinctly if no less enthusiastically.

Connor fixed Braden with a side glance, You know for a man who loves the written word I’d think you’d have more to say than ‘yup’ at the return of our beloved Ivy. Things just haven’t been the same without her.

True, Ivy had come back for brief visits during Christmas holidays and long weekends when she could slip away from school. The year she’d spent in France was the worst. Contact had dwindled to email, which Connor jealously admitted, Braden was far better at. A man of few spoken words Braden’s love of reading and writing rallied Ivy’s own passion. But, now Ivy was coming back to North Carolina. She had accepted a job at the event planning firm Southern Social and Connor was ready to reunite.

The men parked the truck in short term parking and headed to arrivals. They stood around the baggage claim discussing Summer Song Plantation. Connor had inherited the property at age 17 when his parents died in a car crash. He’d spent the rest of his teen years and the first five of his twenties learning the ropes of running a horse farm. The stables were finally turning a profit. It was sheer luck that their sire won the Kentucky Derby. The unborn foals in Connor’s stables suddenly became hot commodities.

For his part Braden ran the workings of the stables. Born and bred a horseman he learned from his father how to work and care for the horses. Braden was a naturally thoughtful man, empathetic and warm he could often be found practicing yoga in a free stall as the sun rose. He’d end his morning riding the horses and making sure they were all fed and well. Connor thought he was the oddest horseman he’d ever met. But given they’d been best friends since the age of five when Connor had tackled Braden in a particularly intense game of dodgeball he was mostly immune to his eccentricities.

The men broke their conversation, drawn as one to Ivy coming down the escalator. God, she was a sight for sore eyes. Even after the three hour flight she glowed. The men glanced around glowering that other men in the terminal had noted her arrival as well. They were mollified when she came bounding over to them enfolding them in a group hug of lush curves and warmth. In turn she kissed each of them on the lips. Perhaps more friendly than a group reunion merited, but both men found themselves itchy with the desire to repeat the process.

Oh, how I’ve missed you two! Ivy squealed, pulling both men in for yet another hug and kiss.

We’ve missed you too Ivy, Braden said as he grabbed Ivy’s luggage.

It just hasn’t been the same without you, Connor exclaimed as he interlaced his fingers with hers. We’re taking you back to the Plantation so you can see all the work we’ve told you about - and so we can keep you all to ourselves for a few hours before you start your new life as an event planner extraordinaire

Ivy giggled, You know I’m extraordinary at anything I put my mind to. She turned back and winked at Braden as she squeezed Connor’s hand. And I have plans for the two of you. During the ride to Summer Song Plantation the boys attempted to cajole Ivy in an attempt to get her to reveal her plans. But she was stubborn about her secret and once they passed through the stone arch that welcomed guests to the Summer Song the boys were too busy pointing out new structures and paint jobs, as well as a piece of farm machinery that looked like it could eat her, to be too concerned with her tight lips.

The main building of the plantation was all rich stonework and green shutters. It had massive windows in back that looked out over the rolling hills of the farm and it was easy to see the horses running in the distance. It had a southern magic that far exceeded even the beauty of France in Ivy’s eyes. Once they had set Ivy’s things down Connor begged an apology as he had a Skype meeting with an investor. He sent Ivy off with Braden to explore the renovated stables.

Once they entered the stables Ivy caught Braden’s hand and began making slow circles at the base of his wrist. That gave Braden pause. He stopped talking about the foaling process and gave a glance down at Ivy, but she seemed absorbed in his monologue. It became difficult to continue with the tour. Ivy’s feather light touch was distracting. Between her welcome kiss and the intimate placement of her fingers Braden was losing his train of thought.

Ivy saw her opening. Moving into a stable she effectively placed herself in a corner and gave a come hither glance. Braden needed no further encouragement. He gently brought his lips to hers, giving her time to rebuff his advances if she so desired. Instead, Ivy moved a hand into his back pocket and drew him closer to her body. All those lush curves pressed against his muscles made Braden weak in the knees. It had been a long time since he’d loved a woman and his body was three steps ahead of his brain.

The sound of footsteps entering the stables caused Braden to move away from Ivy with a muttered curse. God, how could he be so stupid? In all the years the three of them had been friends neither Connor nor Braden had ever made a move on Ivy. They loved each other too much to force Ivy to choose. Braden had always wished there was a way for them to have it all...but love triangles were an impossible situation.

Stifling a deep sigh he looked down at Ivy who only smiled up at him and patted him on the chest. Braden’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion. Ivy held a finger up to her lips and signaled that she would go out to greet Connor.

Hey Ivy, wheres... Connor’s speech abruptly stopped. Braden moved to the edge of the stall to see what had happened. When he looked out he was shocked. Ivy stood kissing Connor with all the passion she had just been kissing him. Braden’s mind froze. When Ivy opened her eyes mid-kiss and looked intently at Braden, he felt the stare like a shot to his loins. He was instantly rock hard. Slowly, as Connor’s hands began to explore the soft skin Braden’s own hands had just left, Braden realized what Ivy must have planned. She was letting Braden in on her secret. Now he just had to decide if this was the answer to his prayers...or the biggest mistake they could make.

    Chapter 2

Braden literally stalled out in the horse stall. One hand was on the feeding trough and the other was resting over his heart. He felt like he was in the midst of a tornado of emotions. Braden was still feeling lustful after kissing Ivy, he was shocked by both her forwardness and blatant display of attraction for both himself and Connor, and finally he was turned on by the current sexual display happening right in front of him.

Thankfully, Braden was spared the added emotional stress of deciding whether he should reveal himself or not and how to react. He watched as Ivy broke her embrace with Connor, giving Connor a sexy smile and one final chaste kiss on the lips before she strung her arm through his and walked him out into the paddock. With one final glance up and down the stables Braden decided the coast was clear. He moved out of the stable only to drop down onto the nearest hay bale. Removing the cowboy hat from his head he drug one large, calloused hand through his thick brown hair. With a final sigh he decided he was going to have to consider his options.

Breathing in through his nose and out through his mouth like his yogic training had taught him Braden felt his pulse slow and his stress level drop slightly. Closing his eyes he allowed himself to sift through the situation. For as long as Braden could remember he, Connor, and Ivy had been inseparable. They completed each other. In Connor he found the motivation to do his best and Connor also lightened Braden’s admittedly serious demeanor. He’d never looked for a relationship with a man before. His whole life he’d lived in the south, not an area of the country most open to relationships that were ‘out of the box’.

But Braden had always thought of himself as open; non-judgmental. He’d read so much, practiced yoga with a mind to finding balance and harmony that was free of societies conventions, even working with horses had shown him that animals were attracted to one and other beyond the need to procreate.

Really, we were all just looking to be fulfilled in our relationships and Braden could wrap his head around the idea that sometimes it took more than one person to complete a relationship. When he looked at it from that point of view he could actually see how lucky they were that the same people completed each of them. They were able to find harmony within a single relationship.

Of course this line of logic didn’t tackle the sexual component. Braden was still unsure how that would work with another man. He wasn’t against trying - at least participating in the same sexual act together with Ivy. But he’d never touched another man and he didn’t know that he was turned on by the idea of being sexually pleased by one either. What had been so attractive in the show Ivy had just put on with Connor was the way Connor was obviously pleasing Ivy and the way Ivy was letting Braden know he would only add to her experience. Now that he could get behind...literally.

Braden allowed himself a chuckle at his own pun. Opening his eyes and placing the cowboy hat back on his head he decided he would take up Ivy’s invitation and be her partner in the challenge to come. Because if Braden had needed a few minutes of calm and focused thought to wrap his head around the idea of a threesome as a relationship, Connor Turner might need years.

    -—  -—  —-

Connor was happily pointing out the improvements he’d made to the landscape around the main building of Summer Song Plantation. Ivy had to concentrate not to laugh as Connor seemingly pointed out every painted shingle, clay pot, and planted perennial the grounds contained.

This, this is a beauty of a weeping willow don’t you think? It’s only great in the spring and beginning of summer but it’ll stay green for most of the year here in North Carolina. I was real happy when the landscape guy finally planted them.

Really Connor, they’re lovely. They’ve always been one of my favorite trees.

Connor stopped walking, turning toward Ivy and narrowing his eyes, which gave Ivy the idea that he was finally catching on. Now Ivy, you’ve said that about quite a few of the trees and plants I’ve been pointing out. You wouldn’t be patronizing me would you?

Ivy gave a flirtatious smile, Patronizing, Me? she fluttered her eyelashes Nope, I’m just a lover of nature...I’m a lover of many things on this Plantation.

Connor felt his body temperature rise. The make out session in the stables had been a surprise, but one that left Connor at loose ends. What to do about Braden? To become closer with Ivy and not have Braden come with them felt weird. Not that Connor wanted a relationship with a man. It was just that everything they’d done, they’d done together as a group. To get to know either one of them on a deeper level and not have the third person be a part of the experience too, well...that just seemed odd.

Connor was shaken from his thoughts by Braden’s approach. He felt rather than saw Ivy’s reaction to Braden. It was like she was the tuning fork joining the three of them together. Her vibrations were ramped up by the approach of the third member of the group.

Braden must have felt it too, Connor thought, he can barely maintain eye contact with me. Connor shook off the feeling that he was screwing his best friend by kissing his other best friend and moved forward to clap Braden on the back.

Where’d we lose you buddy? I found Ivy all alone in the stables. He glanced back at Ivy, She needed taken care of, he winked I’ve been introducing her to all of our flora and fauna.

Braden smiled She looks rightly intrigued by your portion of the tour.

Connor shoved Braden a bit, I don’t think she looks bored so much as travel weary. Connor moved to gather Ivy’s arm again, Why don’t we take a bit of a break. Go ahead and use the master bedroom to nap and shower. What do you say we meet up around 7 for dinner alfresco? Connor waited for Braden and Ivy to nod in response before breaking up the huddle. Then it’s decided. Braden and I will take the time to scrub up as well, but I think we need to go over the latest breeding reports. We’re prepping for a big fundraising event for the Plantation.

Ivy looked at Connor and Braden with interest, All this talk of horses and flowers, and no one felt it necessary to mention to the event planner that you’re planning a big party?! By the end of her speech Ivy had narrowed her eyes and placed her fists on her hips.

Connor was rightly chastised but Braden simply lifted an eyebrow and said You preoccupied me. I was working toward that earlier when you decided you had other plans.

Connor’s eyes narrowed especially as Ivy turned pink, but before he could pursue the subject Ivy disentangled herself from the boys and giving each a peck on their cheeks bustled off to the main house to freshen up.

Ivy entered Summer Song Plantation’s main house through the front entrance. She could have easily entered through one of the back doors from where Connor was showing her the landscape. However, though she had patronized Connor a bit, Ivy was very impressed with the renovations they’d completed. Over the last four years she’d been hearing about the restructuring, the innovations, and even the small changes Connor and Braden had been making on the Turner’s old Plantation. But to see it in person took her breath away. Walking through the front entrance the first time she entered the building was something she wanted to experience.

Moving through the original wooden French doors Ivy was greeted with a cool sunlit space. The theme of nature continued on the inside. The dark hardwoods gleamed with a fresh coat of gloss and the stone walls were freshly grouted, contrasting beautifully with the myriad of brown tones in the rocks themselves. All of the stones had been dug up and sourced locally over 200 years ago from Cashiers Lake.

Stepping through the foyer into the main floor’s sitting room she was greeted with a space that was both rich and masculine. The dark hardwoods continued, though in here they were covered by large oriental rugs that were designed with pleasantly faded jewel tones. A large overstuffed couch was arranged with two leather armchairs. All three pieces of furniture had views of a fireplace, TV, and the two large picture windows on either side of the stone mantle.

Moving out of the sitting room she headed toward the wooden staircase. If she had any hope of grabbing a nap before getting ready for dinner she really needed to stop gawking. At the top of the staircase Ivy stopped dead at the entrance to the master suite. This was obviously a man’s space. A four post, California king bed sat dead center in the space facing yet another fireplace. A portrait of wild horses running in what looked to be the fields of Wild Ridge. The movement in the painting was wonderful, Ivy found that she’d dropped her bags to get closer to the artistry and passion the painting exuded. It was raw in a way that gave her shivers.

Now that she had fully moved into the space she could see that to one side of the bed there was an alcove with a sitting area and large walk-in closet, on the other side of the room was an entrance to a second walk-in as well as a master bath almost as spacious as Ivy’s flat in France. Walking in she could see that the space was marble from floor to ceiling with a large claw foot tub in the center that looked like it could fit two people easily. In addition to double sinks, Connor had added a large walk-in shower with a rainfall shower head. Ivy wasn’t sure which mode of bathing she was going to try out after she fell into that feather bed.

Picking up a remote from the side table Ivy hit a button that drew down the window shades and grabbed her cell phone to set an alarm. She saw the boys had group texted her. Sleep tight Ivy. Ivy smiled. Her experiment had worked. Making-out with both boys had shown her they were willing to take their individual relationships with her to the next level. And, if she wasn’t mistaken, the fact that Braden had shown up after she’d revealed her attraction to Connor proved Braden was ready to try a polyamorous relationship out as well.

That only left Connor as the fly in the pie, so to say. But Ivy’s gut was telling her that this was meant to be. She was a woman with a good bit of faith and she’d learned long ago to trust her instincts rather than pure logic. She fell asleep. Breathing in the scent of Connor and dreaming of two sets of hands running up and down her body.

Connor and Braden spent a distracted hour discussing the upcoming breeding season. They’d had requests from several other horse farms to breed their stock. The decision of who to mix with was one they carefully considered. Their own horse stock was currently on the rise and a misstep could derail their young operation. But in the hour they spend discussing the heritage of various studs, neither man could concentrate; each seemingly lost in thoughts outside the realm of horse reproduction. After a while both men admitted defeat and separated to wash up for dinner that evening.

They met back up in the sitting room on the first floor of the main house. Braden walked in as Connor drew out the cork of a bottle of cabernet. Connor turned when he heard Braden’s boots on the hardwood.
