    INTRODUCTION

When my latest book was published yesterday, I fully intended to start writing the next book that God had already given His servant the green light to write, which was, God’s First Letter Through Peter. However, God being God, while eating my breakfast this morning, God brought to my mind the title for this book and then proceeded to give some thoughts regarding what He desired to see covered in the book. After thirty-eight years of personally knowing God and walking with Him, I have learned by now that the reason He had given me those thoughts was in order to place the other book on the back burner for now and start writing this one. Anyone familiar with the current situation on the street, not just in North America, but also everywhere else in this world, one would have to conclude that the need for such a book is urgent!

And when we talk about drugs here, we are not just talking about marijuana, which is well on its way to being legalized in all fifty states of the union, California only being the latest at the time of writing; including every country in the world, with Canada having already announced plans to legalize marijuana on July 1st, 2018. By drugs then, we mean any substance ingested in the human body that is taken as a means of escaping the present reality of one’s life; and not as what has been prescribed by a health care professional; although almost all that is prescribed by medical practitioners are indeed drugs, often with many harmful side effects.

Another possible reason for why God is leading His servant to write this book is that He knows that I have been alarmed by the constant news stories about the death of people of all ages from drugs. We could almost call this present generation ‘a drug culture,’ as drugs are too often the first thing that people turn to when there is a problem in their lives. As an evangelist, as one called of God to share the gospel, that is, the good news about His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, I would be amiss to not point people to the solution to the problems of life that we all face, including those who do know Jesus.

If someone wonders what qualifications I have in writing such a book, then please note that before I came to personally know God in salvation thirty-eight years ago (January 14, 1980), I was a heavy drinker and smoker, and had been for about twenty years. But after coming to know God, through faith in His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, I no longer needed my tobacco or the alcohol. Whatever was lacking in my life that made me smoke and drink was now met by God in my life, so that the need for these things that were harming me ceased immediately and permanently. There has never been a craving since. And I know that I am not alone in this testimony, as many can testify, who have come to know Jesus and have been freed from bondage to drugs of all kinds, and not just to tobacco and alcohol. I have also been a counselor for over twenty years, having encountered many and varied situations in that period of time, some being drug related.

And what I need to be careful of here is to ensure I do not make false claims, such as leading readers to think that if you have Jesus, you can throw out your prescribed medications, or to think that you will be automatically healed of a current illness, or that you will never be sick again. The reality is that God has not promised anyone a diseased free life while here on earth, only that He can make such a difference in
