About this ebook
A female soldier is almost killed by an IED. She is on deaths door, but finally begins a partial recovery, and comes to grips with her injuries. When she is kidnapped from the hospital, she is thrust into a situation that is out of this world.
The kidnapper, not aware of her physical condition, gives her an ultimatum. Failure to comply with the ultimatum would result in another situation she considers worse than slavery.
When she finally gets him to realize her physical condition, he offers her medical treatment that is out of this world.
Back on her feet, she must still comply with his original ultimatum, chaperon a princess. She knows the rules from her planets technology. Aboard an alien spacecraft, she can only guess at its rules.
Her limited success in one area, puts her against a clan in a blood feud.
That only starts her trek across the stars where death is just a breath away.

I've loved westerns and science fiction since I picked up my first book at the public library. I've been writing on my computer for years. I never planned on any of my stories being published, just to be read by myself, family, and friends. The base journal is on forty spreadsheets with links to about a thousand files of short one day paragraphs plus other stories. {My claim to fame, written by someone else. Thanks.} "As an earthbound retiree, Stephen writes mostly science fiction and short stories. He is a voracious reader and has written for a few years, publishing his stories on Smashwords."

Chapter 1 LRMC
The patrol was boring and everyone in the Hummer was in a hurry to get back for chow. Two more streets and they'd be in the Green Zone. Without any indication of danger the hummer lifted several feet into the air as the IED under the pavement exploded. In amazement Sergeant Carlson watched dust and debris fly out of the door and windows of the shop on her side. In almost in slow motion the table impacted the side of the hummer. She screamed as the table leg penetrated the window, her arm, the armored vest, and into her chest.
She opened her eyes and saw the nurse changing the IV bag and passed out again.
Again she opened her eyes and a lieutenant said, You're in the hospital in Ramstein. Your parents were notified, and should be here in a week. You should be able to start rehabilitation within the month, and then you'll be transferred to the states as soon as you can travel. Any questions?
Yes, my squad?
I'm sorry, but I don't have that information.
Bullshit! Lieutenant. You know their status. Confirm it for me.
Staring at the silent lieutenant she caught movement from the corner of her eye; the nurse putting a needle in her IV.
Waking up again her tongue reminded her of a piece of beef jerky, it was so dry. A few minutes later a nurse entered and put a straw in her mouth. She sucked the water until the nurse pulled it away. Mumbling, she asked, Where am I?
LRMC.
Where?
Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. You were sent up here from Ramstein yesterday. Don't worry, we'll take good care of you sergeant. Just rest now. A doctor will be in shortly to check on you.
The doctor, she noticed, was a full Colonel. He smiled and told her she would have some problems, but should recover nicely. Her mother was outside and would come in as soon as he finished his examination.
Her mother had tears in her eyes as she came in. My poor baby. Daddy and I will take care of you. Don't you worry about anything. - - -
After a few minutes watching her mother be brave she said, Mom, I'm tired. Get some rest and come back later.
Closing her eyes she listened to her mother sob as she walked to the door. She hated the way her mother whimpered over her, all her life.
The guy in white was cheerful as he set down the tray and removed her IV. This morning you get some solid food. After you eat, I'll take you down to rehabilitation for your first session. Just buzz when you finish.
Lifting the plastic cover she looked at the runny eggs, and the dropped it back over the plate. Yuk! After sipping the juice she took the plastic cover off the small dish and discovered what looked like chocolate pudding.
After finishing the pudding she hit the button and waited.
As he entered he said, You need to eat the eggs.
She replied,
