      C aleb? Elijah said to me in a slightly solicitous tone.  Damn it, this was going to be a bad one, wasn't it?

      I sighed and rubbed the spot between my eyes that had started to hurt the moment I heard his ringtone.  His ringtone is an old-fashioned telephone sound.  I can be walking along, and the nineteen-fifties starts up in my left pocket.  I sigh, knowing there's trouble a-brewin' at the ranch.  I had hated the sound before I chose it for him, so that couldn't ruin it for me.  My normal ring is cheerful and modern.

      Yeah, Eli?  Did you have a funny feeling in your elbow, warning us about El Nino?

      That would be a weather precog.  He sounded pained.  You're confusing me with a weatherman. 

      Oh, come on.  I bet if you tried hard enough, you could guess the weather, I baited him.  I was exhausted because my last mission had been pretty intense.  What I needed was a rest, not another capture-and-contain.

      I don't know everything, whatever you think.  Elijah sounded aggrieved. 

      He wasn't my boss; we both worked for the ESRB, no real pay difference
