      News of the impending inclement conditions did nothing to swipe the contented smile from Dionne Shyler MacInnis’ dark, lovely face. Her head continued to loll against the seat rest, her eyes closed as her husband skillfully maneuvered the Jeep up the winding mountainside.

      Caterer Brom MacInnis and his wife had taken to roads north that weekend en route to sharing laughter and memories with friends. Of course, the reunion had been scheduled long before Mother Nature had intervened with her plans to turn the already striking winter wonderland into more frigid terrain. Brom and Dionne; in dire need of a little carefree time, had decided that nothing short of a full-blown blizzard would deter them.

      Five feet... Dionne sighed, eyes still closed, head still lolling as her foot tapped the carpeted floor panel to the beat of the jazz sax piece that played.

      "Between two and five feet," Brom’s smile narrowed his striking greenish-brown gaze as he made the distinction.

      Mmm...think we’ll get snowed in?

      God, I hope so.

      Laughter warmed the serene confines of the Jeep’s cabin. The MacInnis’ determination to brave threatening weather, wasn’t just a hunt for fun and frolicking. The couple was fixed on enjoying an entire weekend without...certain demands creeping their way in.

      When a murder, motivated by revenge, had occurred at a party for one of Dionne’s former colleagues, several months prior, ‘downtime’ had become less scarce than it already was. A former detective, Dionne had not lost her talent for crime solving. Her almost supernatural perception had unmasked the culprit by the evening’s end. Alas, the commendable act had resulted in Dionne’s continued cooperation with authorities as the official investigation opened, followed by the necessary court proceedings.

      Once the hubbub had died down, the Macs took advantage of their first opportunity to get lost. That their destination held such fond memories, made the trip even more of a special occasion. The WellWisher Inn had been the spot where they’d met. Dionne and her partner at the time, Detective Toni Easton had gone up for a girls’ weekend and to hash out the details of a challenging case. Their first night at the quaint inn, Dionne found her way to the kitchen and met the darkly sexy caterer that had been hired for the evening. The rest...was a history comprised of three years of wedded bliss.
