    The Project - Lisa Anderson

    Chapter 1:

The six kids read the instructions for their final film project. They had to do a documentary on an urban legend. They were to find out how out it had started, what caused the legend and if any is based on fact, how it had impacted the local communities and the people’s way of life. It was to include interviews, research, locations shots and see if it can be proven or not. They were all excited. This would be a great challenge.

They all met at the school common area to talk about the different legends. Most were commonly known and not very interesting. They wanted something different. Something that others wouldn’t have gone after. Ever heard of the White-Haired Witch? Steve asked. Everyone looked him. It wasn’t one of the better-known legends. Still it was an urban legend that would be different than any of the others done. The White-Haired Witch is a local urban legend that is not far from here. The legend says that if you go in the woods there is a good chance you won’t come out. Some say the White-haired Witch made a pact with the devil. The woods are said to be haunted as well as the witches house. We could go camping in the woods for part of the film to show the location for part of the documentary. Steve said.

Marie smiled. Her blonde hair was tied in a ponytail and her blue eyes shone with excitement. She had heard the legend, and this would be interesting. Wait a second, if the woods are said to be haunted how will we get the location shots? If I remember correctly people go missing all the time in there. We, girls can go to the library and see what we can find. We will have the research part and you guys can get the equipment that we will need for the trip. This is going to be a big trip and we will need extra batteries and other things.

The kids split up in two groups. Marie went to the library and began to do the research. The other girl went to the professor and spoke about a problem that she had. It wasn’t with the assignment it was about something else. She was pregnant, and the camping part would be hard on her. That and she was extremely fearful of the fact that the woods were dangerous. She didn’t believe in the legend but still wanted to not have to go camping. They agreed that she would have to do the research and do the editing of the footage and other things. The professor was surprised when he heard the legend that they were going to do. This would be a rather dangerous one. The Professor had grown up in the area around the woods and had lost more than one friend in the woods as a young kid. They wanted to do the legend and he agreed to let them do it if they took extra precautions.

She went and met up with Marie. She explained what she had talked with the professor about and the fact that he was rather shocked that they would take that legend to do and wanted to make sure that
