About this ebook

Philip is the captain of the baseball team at his high school and the star pitcher. His family doesn’t have much money, so he’s depending on getting an athletic scholarship for college. He is a good student except for math, where he’s doing poorly. His coach warns him that unless he pulls up his math grade he’ll be off the team.

The principal of Philip’s high school arranges a math tutor for him. Much to Philip’s dismay the tutor is Arthur, a fellow student. Arthur, a top student, apparently has no interest in athletics, but that’s not what bothers Philip the most. Arthur has never said he’s gay, but everyone assumes it, and Philip, following his father’s lead, is quite homophobic. He really, really doesn’t want to have anything to do with Arthur, but he has to accept the tutoring or be off the team.

Working with Arthur, getting to know him, is an eye opener for Philip. He and Arthur become close friends, but Philip can’t handle their growing intimacy. His homophobia takes over, with unexpected results ...

Alex Head

Alex Head likes to write about gay men, interesting situations, and true love. Alex was married for nineteen years before finally admitting to himself, and the world, that he was (and always had been) gay. He and his wife divorced, and ten years later he met the love of his life. They fell in love instantly. Alex proposed and his husband accepted thirteen hours after they met. They have been together now for twenty-seven years. Before meeting his husband Alex didn’t believe in love at first sight or in soul mates. Now he does, and this is a theme in several of his stories. Another theme from his life is denying you are gay until mid-life. Alex often wonders what his life would have been like if he’d admitted to himself in high school that he is gay. This, too, is in several stories. Other themes that often occur are from his love of classical music and his other career: computer science. Alex and his husband live in Portland, Oregon, across the street from their younger son and his wife.
